What do you guys think of this game? Also: WHY THE FUCK ISN'T THERE A GAME LIKE THIS ANYMORE?!

There were several games very similar to Bushido Blade on the PS2 and PS3. They were equally niche.
Incidentally, fuck the sequel. My friends liked the sequel much more, but I always thought it sucked dicks. The original game had a very peculiar atmosphere few games ever had.

I was fascinated by it back in the day. My type of fighting game.

There’s plenty of games like this still. Just not one on one fighters of this style because fighters have fallen out of favor.

>>6487137
I like both but you’re right. The original has a strange atmosphere nothing really matches

Both of you claim there are several games like Bushido Blade yet fail to list any of them.

Here's one I remember seeing advertised to hype up the PS2 release. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNQfM3MgF1Y (not retro, obv)

I never played it, but the poses give off those uncanny, Fighter Maker vibes... Like they used a bunch of pack-in character models and poses from whatever 3D animator, and manually made minute adjustments.

Dark souls, sekiro, blade symphony, childcare, mount and blade, Games come out with the same slow paced very intentional fighting mechanics. They’re usually just very very niche.

The Kengo series, for example:

Then there's Deadliest Warrior, also a series:

There hasn't been nor will there ever be a game like BB. WHY? Because it's a love it or hate it game. Companies want a game where it appeals to as many people as possible. It's why FPS and RPG games are so popular.

Please, dipshit, now OP'll think that I'm you /equally stupid.
Bushido Blade is a 1-on-1 fighting game with complex 3d arenas, where a fully landed strike kills immediately, What the fuck do action/rpgs and M&B of all things have to do with them, holy shit. I mean, I udnerstand the remote resemblance, but dude.

There have been numerous games exactly like BB. Check the Kengo series.

Not retro but the whole Kengo series might be your jam.

Just because a game doesn’t have the exact same mechanics doesn’t mean it isn’t a similar style of game. Most people would consider them similar gameplay wise.

They're in completely different genres. You're comparing adventure/rpgs to 1-on-1 fighting games, man. Get a grip.

People loved BB. It was a popular game. The Kengo games that came after are probably what sullied the market, being they're low-effort copycats by comparison despite the generation leap.

Looking back, the game feels half completed. It feels like the original pitch was the player escaping the castle while pursued by ninjas, perhaps with accompanying boss fights with the other characters at other sections of the castle. However due to budget/system restraints, they only managed to design the castle, combat system, and characters, and the whole "escape the castle while being chased by ninjas" thing was dumped in favor of what is basically a tournament fighter that has an inexplicable chase through a poorly loading castle at the beginning that also was pretty bad at telling you you were doing things wrong like the first play through where you murder everyone before they are ready and get a bad ending because of it.

They could do something similar these days given the popularity of the "dodge, parry or die" genre. It would be nice to get one that wasn't based on fantasy and fighting big boy bosses.

Really fun in vs. I played it a lot with my cousins. Getting the best ending in story mode was weird, obtuse, and kind of frustrating.

if any series is due a comeback its this one, loved both of them back in the PS1 days, long matches with a skilled opponeant or a lucky stike you never knew what you were going to get

For Honor gets pretty close. You can choose to fight one on one and a lot of times one or two blows will seal the deal and kill your opponent. Sorry for posting not retro shit. I'll fuck off now.

Also, Kengo for PS2 is a whole lot like Bushido blade.

>> No.6489301

I love Bushido Blade. Its got fun gameplay and simplistic yet addictive design, its underdeveloped yeah but I still like it a lot, both modes being great fun the survival mode and the arcade ladder/story mode in it. Rented it a lot in the 90s.

Reading that took me back. I rented BB from the video store several times. It was always a crap shoot renting disc games. Sometimes you'd get a scratched ass disc and it wouldn't load or it would glitch out in you.
