3 is still my least favorite, but still a good game, and the map is kino.
Still my favorite maps are from DKC1. I like how dark DKC1's maps are, and how bright and vibrant the map in DKC3 is, but 1 still has that middle-ground balance between realistic, but mysterious at the same time.

NGL, I thought the overworld shenanigans in 3 were great when I was a kid, 1 has a special nostalgic value because it was the first video game Ive ever played. So I have to agree with OP.

2 > 3 > 1

The first one has pretty boring level designs and terrible bosses. Miyamoto was right about it.

What's the appeal of 2 other than le dark

>> No.6469591

3 is so far ahead of almost every SNES game that the way people talk about it at times makes it seem like a complete disaster, which I don't at all get. The design wasn't as clever as 2 and it was easier, but it's still amazing by every metric. I think people have a selective memory where they just played it for a short period and just remember the mill levels and elephant because I see people say it's gimmicky as well.

>> No.6469598

The issue I see people calling out about 3 level design is the lack of... platforming. Many vertical levels, some obstacles to make horizontal movements slower, etc. And the overuse of level gimmicks.

I enjoy all three. If I would rank it, it will be >>6469468.

The second game is a good balance of platforming, innovations such as animal usage, level design and 'post-game content'.

What I don't like about 3 is the start of the trend of collectibles and trading sequences on Rare games. Crystals and banana birds are cool, but too much trouble and different of what I wanted to experience on the game, that are the levels themselves.

The original is amazing. Simple, effective, Aquatic Ambience is wonderful. But I think it gets too much repetitive later in the game. Fear Factory is my favorite song of all three games.

>> No.6469769

Maybe it's superficial, but I always preferred 1 over 2 for how uniform the aesthetic in 2 seemed. I wasn't really swept away by the whole pirate ship/nautical thing.

You're correct about bosses, but in it's defense I think 1 does a great job at presenting them.
The banana hoards are very noticeable in the maps, so it was more exciting as a kid to approach them and know you're reaching the end of that world. 2/3 just kind of end wherever and you know you're there because there's been enough levels for one.
I've also always thought that the boss music in the latter 2 don't hold up to the first one, even though each one fits their respective game's pacing.

3's baby kong is frail, end of level rope downgrade from target & rock out of 2, annoying elephant

>> No.6471381

>>6471346
The end target in 2 was fucking retarded. And the elephant is much more interesting than the stupid rhino which just kills everything in its path.

>> No.6471385

>>6469598
The collectibles in 3 are fine, it's like a small diversion from the standard platforming levels. It doesn't change the gameplay (on the contrary, it simplifies it since there's always exactly two bonus levels in ecery level, and almost always one before one after the checkpoint),but it adds a little exploration to the overworld maps, so you get more enjoyment from them rather than just being a hub between levels.

3 was the first game I had on Snes after I bought one off my friend because my mum was a faggot and wouldn’t buy one for Christmas. It still reminds me of stinking hot summer days in school holidays trying to grind to 103%
