Wanted to know if its a good version of the game, is it better than emulating it?

>> No.6461180

Define better than emulating. Because Genesis emulation is pretty much immaculate so I'm failing to see how something can be better than emulating provided you have the right setup.

>his arms and body appear over the title
That's how you tell good emulation from bad.

does it run better than emulating the game on the wii for example?

>> No.6461264

360 can't display at 240p, the Wii does.
So if you're playing on a CRT, wii is more accurate. Otherwise I don't think there's a difference.

Play the Android version of S1 and S2, they're the best versions

>true widescreen
>no lag
>re-made special stages in S2, in S1 the widescreen helps
>you can play as Sonic, Sonic+Tails, or as Tails, or as Knuckles, in both games

You can emulate them with pad too.

The "downside" is that it makes the game easier. A couple of bosses play differently to accomodate for the widescreen, too.

like I said this can be emulated with pad. As for TV I don't know if any console can emulate android but I doubt it.

Agreed, making retro games widescreen is just a meme.
Luckily you can play those games on a 4:3 tablet like the iPad

>> No.6461425

>>6461410
actually widescreen for Sonic is pretty awesome since it gives you that extra split second to react to enemies and shit when going fast

>> No.6461428

It's just an emulation release. Nothing particulary special.
The best ways to play it is either through a emulator like Fusion or Genesis Plus GX or emulating or straight playing the Android remake by the guys behind Sonic Mania.

Because you suck at the game doesn't mean everyone does

>> No.6461549

The only points you get to go fast in Sonic 1 are the points in Green Hill or Star Light where you're just coasting on auto-pilot through loops and ramps with no input needed. Aside from them, it's barely a step above Super Mario Bros. with how moderately-paced the stages are.

>> No.6461575

>>6461425
You can perfectly react to everything on the original 4:3 ratio. Widescreen is mostly placebo. IMO it ruins the original vision from the developers, but it's OK if people want to play it that way. I'll stick to original hardware and CRT.

The actual level that allows the fastest speed on Sonic 1 is Spring Yard Zone, the higher routes.
And you can go pretty fast in SMB. Most of the levels can be beaten without ever having to stop running.

>And you can go pretty fast in SMB. Most of the levels can be beaten without ever having to stop running.
Which is why the claims about Sonic 1 being faster are vastly overblown. They're really about even.

Buy it for the achievements. Pass if you already own the game on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, the Sega Genesis Mini or if you have an original copy of the game for the Sega Genesis, in this case you can just buy an HDMI adapter for your Genesis. I do both emulation and play this game via Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.

The Xbox 360 is an emulation, dumb-dumb.
It's an awful emulation by Backbone Entertainment at that.

Emulating it in Kega Fusion or more cycle accurate emuloators such as Exodus(I think Retroarch has a core for it) is a much better experience.

Except they destroyed the quick-kill strategies for bosses by making them invincible until they bring their toy out which sucks.
Taxman version is decent but it's ultimately an alternative to the original version and not a definitive version largely because of that.

>>6461549
Git gud.
You can go fast in every level except for Labyrinth.

>> No.6461806

>They're really about even.
They're not. Sonic when he's rolling down a hill is much much faster than Mario ever was.
It's not even a comparison.

>> No.6461964

op here i will play on the Genesis Plus HX on the wii, i downloaded the demo on the xbox and it was underwhelming. I might get sonic cd on the 360 cuz its is the retro engine version.

>You can go fast in every level except for Labyrinth.
Just like in SMB, including how the swimming stages are just as slow as Labyrinth.

>>6461806
And those parts are mostly limited to setpieces where you just watch and not press a button. The parts where you're actually expected to control Sonic generally don't get very fast.

>> No.6461993

I think Sonic fans would enjoy I Wanna Be The Guy since that game revolves around memorizing screen layouts for speed too.

>> No.6462151

>>6461173
The 360 version is just an average emulated version of the game. Fine way to play the game but I wouldn't pay for that version.

>>6461290
This easily the best version (besides the fact it's stuck on phones/android emulators). The remastered music is also fantastic and the developer actually purchased the same synthesizer used for the Genesis. I've noticed little details in songs I never picked up when listening to the original music.
