Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon or Goemon's Great Adventure?

>> No.6457228

Starring Goemon for me. I do think Great Adventure is fun, but Starring Goemon is a very unique game in the series. Plus I like how it combines 3D zelda gameplay with a platformer.

Starring Goemon for plot/humor/adventure sense
Great Adventure for gameplay and level design

GGA is a fine tuned platformer and amongst the best in the series.

MNSG is just a semi jank Zelda clone (though I still love it)

Neither. The series peaked at Legend of the Mystical Ninja and only got worse after that game.

Almost correct, but the franchise actually peaked at Goemon 2 on the original Famicom. Really wish the series had kept that belt scroller gameplay instead of turning into a generic, diamond-dozen platformer with the following installments.

The thing with trying to shitpost Goemon threads is that there's barely any console war you could get from it.
It Konami released any Goemon game on Genesis, these threads would be a battlefield similar to the Castlevania ones, but as it stands, only Sony got some Goemon games other than Nintendo, and they're all from decent to bad.
Anyway, my favorite is Goemon's Great Adventure, followed by Ganbare Goemon 2 on SFC and MNSG.
The first SFC game (LOTMN) would come in 4th place along with Goemon 4.
Still haven't played GG3.

To be completely fair, I love all these games almost equally. I just had the most fun with GGA, and is the most challenging. To me it peaked there, but I also don't see anything wrong with people who would prefer LOTMN, or GG2 over it. They're all fantastic action platformers, among the best ever.

Yeah that's the only one I still haven't played (more than a few minutes). On PS1 I only played the 3D one (awful, didn't finish it but I could experience it's not a good game) and the one that's mostly a rehash of the SFC gamesm which wasn't bad but it lacked anything that made it stand out.
Some day I'll play Akogingu in full, but I doubt I'll like it more than Mystical Ninja starring Goemon. Non-linear goemons rely on their plot and humor a lot, and Starring Goemon is very hard to top with that. Also not a big fan of the new characters in Akogingu, but we'll see, maybe they'll surprise me once I finally play it.

Are you delusional? They're all solid with the worst ones being mediocre. They are direct continuations of the 4 SFC games and play the same. I swear, no one's played them and opinion will suddenly change once they get translation patches.

The 3D Goemon really is trash, it was made by the same guys who did that horrible Saturn SotN port.

The sidescrollers aren't bad per se, but they aren't nearly as well designed or polished as the SNES games and GGA. I think they were outsourced to some random company too, so they have weird continuity errors like you fighting Plasma when normally he's an ally.

>Are you delusional? They're all solid with the worst ones being mediocre
I said they're all ranging from decent (decent being good, even the "New Era" Goemon, despite its jarring art direction change, is a decent game) to bad (the 3D one, Kuru Nara Koi).
>They are direct continuations of the 4 SFC games and play the same
Well, you could say all Goemon games are "direct continuations" of the SFC games, N64 ones too.
Oedo Daikaiten is the only one, besides Akogingu, that I think could be liked by Goemon fans, but it's still not really on the level of the SFC games or GGA. It's decent, but that's it. People have already played this one, as it's more straightforward and doesn't need a translation to play it, but it was never a favorite.
>opinion will suddenly change once they get translation patches.
I dunno, it's not the case with the japanese fandom, at any rate.
Goemon 3 SFC got a translation, but it didn't suddenly become the favorite, or made people stop liking the N64 ones.
Akogingu could get some new fans when the translation is done, but that game is similar to GG3, and again, that game didn't suddenly become the fan favorite because of that. And Akogingu has even less chances of that since it's an odd one, without Sasuke or Yae.
I'm not saying that noone should like non-Nintendo Goemon games, in fact, I wish the PS1 games were on the same level as the Nintendo games, hell, I wish Sega got some Goemon. But as it stands, the most high quality Goemon games were made on Nintendo systems, with PS1 getting left overs, with the best ones being Akogingu.
