What a stupid post. Obviously you can't remember the "heyday" because you were too young. That doesn't mean that you can't know about it or still enjoy older games though.

true yeah I can remember from 4.
My earliest gaming memories are when I was 6, got an N64.

BUT its important to point out that if you have older brothers you can remember a bit earlier (if that makes sense.) OP has a (much) older brother so it possible OP can actually remember 6th gen pretty well (which includes game boy advance.)
Also bear in mind many NES and SNES games were re-released on GBA, the "NES Classics" line and then all the Super Mario Lands on SNES were released as Mario Advance 1, 2, and 3. The GBA is essentially a handheld SNES, as the game boy was basically a handheld NES / game gear was a handheld Master System. DS got some N64 re-releases; it was a souped up handheld N64 basically. (Lylat Wars, Mario 64 DS, the n64 Zeldas both saw re-releases on DS.)

So, with an older brother for guidance, and lots of retro games coming out on a current console (gb advance), and also in Animal Crossing on gamecube you could play NES games; thats how I first played them (Emulators werent as prevalent or capable in 2003). Also, a Zelda Collectors Edition disc came out in late 2003 on gamecube that had the two NES Zelda games on it, thats where I first played NES Zeldas.

>t. born 1992.

This too, Pokemon in particular gave the Game Boy (and GBC) a longer lifespan. I have an official nintendo gen 1 pokemon guide from 2000 which advises for Kogas gym;
>"If you are lucky enough to have a SNES and Super game boy working, play your cart here and youll easily see the invisible walls in Kogas gym."

I was still bringing a (1989 brick) Game Boy into school in 2000 / 2001 to play/trade/battle Pokemon Red.
The trade cables had forked ends; the smaller port for Game Boy Color and larger port was for brick Game Boy.

It was not unusual at all in 2000 to see brick game boys. By about 2001 you would have got a bit of a slagging for it, though.

You know, come to think of it, the gameboy really was great towards the end of its cycle. There was nothing fun about barely being able to see the fucking screen. Also Pokemon came out in 98 or around then right? I think you got in at the best time to be frank.

Another '95 kid here, I remember watching my mom and dad taking turns playing MediEvil and laughing at Fortesque's mumbling. I cling pretty strongly to those kinds of old memories, because by '99 my parents had split and I was living the next ten years homeschooled and TV-free with my grandparents in the middle of a fucking desert, and they tried to get rid of pretty much every movie, album, or video game my dad had left me with. I've been spending the last decade just playing catchup with all the shit I missed the first go around. I think people just have different capacities for early memories, or they keep certain memories and toss others due to how impactful it seemed at the time.

It’s fine OP. That’s just what big bro’s do. I was born in October 94 and I tease my little bro (March 02) about how he didn’t live through the 64 and he’d barely have any memories pre-Wii. It’s all lighthearted though. But he’s a huge old school gamer and has a big NES collection so it doesn’t really matter.

Your bro is kinda wrong though. You should be able to remember GBC at the very least. I had a GB at like 4 and got a GBC for Christmas 99 with Pokémon Gold, and I vividly remember enjoying that, the Oracle games, Kirby Tilt n Tumble, etc. Don’t worry so much.

Deep down this is the mindset of every "PS2 and Gamecube are retro!" posters.
That being said, who gives a shit. Enjoy what you enjoy. I was born in 1988 and grew up playing NES and SNES, even though I was too young to actually grow up during the prime years of the NES. Nevertheless I have fond childhood memories of the console and gladly play it to this day.

>> No.6457161

I was born in 89 and in my opinion you need to be born in 1994 or earlier to be counted as a true boomer.

Once you've born in 1995 or later, it's doubtful you would have any memories of real arcades (not just dancing ticket winning family entertainment venues). Arcades, not home experiences, were the true ticket to retro.

Actually, the only DS N64 re-release was Mario 64, the other three games didn't get a remaster until later and that was only on the 3DS.

I'm in a weird situation, I was born in 1993, but in the place where I grew up the "heyday" of the SNES lasted well into the early 2000s. Every kid seemed to have one, there were always people to trade carts with and places to rent, I never knew too many people who had N64 or PSX and those who did were always alone, in the sense that they didn't have a "community" to be part of. Which is why I always think of myself as someone from the SNES era.
I couldn't pinpoint the exact moment everybody stored their SNES away in the attic for good and started getting PS2s and computers, maybe sometime around 2002-3, but in my mind that's what separates the old times and the modern times.
