Your thoughts on 8bitdo controllers?

>> No.6450816

They're not bad. I have one for my NES, it does the job when I'm sitting on the couch. Button feel isn't the best, but it's far from the worst.

I have the SNES one and I like it quite a bit, but the Genesis one I have has connectivity issues, it'll be fine and then all of a sudden it will lose signal, screwing up gameplay. It also is particular about syncing when I turn the console on.

do you have the 2.4g version or the bluetooth version? it's a saturn knock-off not genesis btw

Their controllers helped me along with cycle accurate emulators to completely abandon physical NES and SNES collecting. Now I only collect for consoles where emulation is currently pretty bad.

>> No.6451217

if you're willing to use bluetooth controllers for stuff pre-PS3/360, then I think you'll get what you want.
They can't hold a candle to original controllers, not good enough for pitch perfect emulation. I'd rather buy a cheap adapter and a legit controller then play with a 3rd party controller.

I have two of these. They're pretty good actually. Pairs very seamlessly with Switch and macOS, works great for playing 2D games and emulating.

Recently I've been playing Panzer Dragoon and Sega Rally with one of these on Retroarch, which to my surprise is also working pretty well for macOS.

Having 6 face buttons also makes it great for fighting games in general too. It's a great controller, very versatile too. I chose to buy two of these instead of the SN30 (not the pro version because I wasn't looking for analog sticks), and decided to go with this one just for having more buttons and the Genesis d-pad which I like way more than the cross style.

In the past I've used this controller to play some Towerfall on the Switch, works great if you're looking for a cheap way to play 6-player mode maybe when this Covid blows over I'll be playing with my friends again ;_;

I do not like that you can't turn on the Switch with one of these.

Overall, would recommend.

I love their retro receivers, those are great.
As for specifically controllers, the SN30 Pro+ is their best one and the M30 is also good, but those two are the only controllers you should even bother with. Why anyone would ever bother with any of their other controllers is a mystery to me, but if anybody would care to enlighten me of their uses, I'd love to hear.

I really hope they'd make an M30 Pro in the same style as the Sn30 Pro+, I love the PSX grips, the analog triggers, and the sticks, I just want that but with the Sega-style D-Pad and 6button layout. That would be ideal. Also maybe a GameCube button layout would be neat.
Now I'm just waiting for them to make retro receivers for 5th and 6th gen; bluetooth receivers for the PSX/PS2, GameCube, and Saturn seem like fucking no-brainers, I'm confused on why they haven't yet.

M30: Best joypad i ever used. There isnt any better pad on the planet in 2020. Less than 1 frame of lag on the RF ones. Downside, its a bit of a luck of the draw, some of them have inferior rubberpads under the d-pad. I guess they make the parts in different factories or something. However if you get the right one, you ll be happy with it.

SF 30PRO: Best pad i ever used for modern switch games games. The analog sticks are fucking fantastic. No stupid gips either. I fucking hate the PS style pads. The whole thing feels compact and tight. Downside: you cant play street fighter with this, the d-pad produces unwanted imputs. Its fixable, but i couldnt be bothered.

Update your firmware on both the pad and the receiver. It will fix your connectivity issues.

I have an M30 and the d-pad is on point, the buttons are decent but I would rather use this for fighting games than other 2D ones. It's sturdier than it looks.

I also have an SN30 Pro Plus, the d-pad is slightly clickier than the original (although pretty good if you hate accidental diagonals) and the face buttons I replaced alongside the contact pad because frankly they're not as good. However the rest of the controller is just pretty fucking boss if you ask me. I don't want to touch my xbone controller again.

It's true, that happens. You need silicone lubricant applied to the parts behind the d-pad. Once done, it's done, no more creaking. I applied this back in March 2019 and as of today it's still not creaking at all.

The SN30 Pro Plus does have stiffer buttons than the SNES controller, so don't go expecting the same. That said you could switch them, but even using different buttons there's varying results so you gotta experiment with that.

Thankfully the pad is not difficult to open (although tricky as 2 of the 4 screws are hidden behind a sticker in the battery compartment and you have to lift the L2 and R2 "tabs" over the triggers) but you better have a spare set of contact pads because those need a slight cut to fit this pad (which if you put them back in an original SNES pad it won't still affect anything). I left the original D-pad + contact pad for that and used the original SNES ones + the buttons, not just because I like the colors but because there is just ever so slightly less travel distance. I detest clicky face buttons but the stiffness of the d-pad this shit has is just fine, not too hard to press or anything. Can still do DPs and full circles fine without losing the ability to walljump properly in Super Metroid. For fighting the M30 and the saturn controllers are still much better though.

>silicone lubricant
Is there a guide/pictures on where exactly to apply it? My M30 creaks a lot too, but I've never taken many controllers apart before so I'm confused by what people mean by "the parts behind the d-pad". Sorry if I'm being retarded.

Gotta have to link to reddit

https://www.reddit.com/r/8bitdo/comments/dbvase/guide_how_to_fix_the_crunchy_dpad_on_a_m30/

The d-pad has 2 parts: the one you see, which you press, and the part that actually presses each of the buttons on the contact pad. When you assemble them, you'll notice that creaking. You have to drop silicone lubricant -inside- the latter part, pic related. The guide points out sewing machine oil but it isn't as effective. What you want to make sure is that the plastic parts that connect are lubricated. Eventually it will creak less and less because the plastic will offer less resistance when fully pushing the d-pad.

Also don't be afraid of opening it, 8bitdo pads usually are sealed and require a bit of force to pry open after taking out the screws, but it won't damage anything.
