Were you a shitty kid when it comes to games /vr/?

>Be 7
>Christmas 2000
>So excited for Banjo Tooie
>Get up, go and open presents
>Not much, looking for Tooie
>Don't get Banjo Tooie, only get Pokemon Pinball
>Act like a cunt to the rest of the day to my mother, she knows why, tell her exactly why

As I got older I realised we were actually really poor at the time, my mother had just divorced my father because he was a cheater and kept money from her and we didn't have much. She bought me what she could only afford while working and trying to bring up three kids under 12 while not getting anything out of the settlement of divorce, my father didn't even want custody but managed to get pretty much everything in settlement.

>The game now has a special place on my shelf.

I made some poor choices here and there as a kid but as much as I begrudged myself, or the times when my parents got me a shitty game, I learned to make the most of it like Kid Kool

>> No.645112

Nothing like that really happened with me, probably because I was so easily entertained as a kid. Even if I didn't get what I wanted for Christmas or a birthday, it usually didn't matter because I got something. It wasn't as if I appreciated the thought and not just the gift, I had no concept of that as a kid, it was just something cool and new.

>> No.645141

>>645103

I think my justification is being so young i really had no idea about how much a new game was worth, Banjo Tooie was easily around $100 new in Australia then, and also when my Father did see me he bought me gifts, such as a Gameboy Colour which I realised a couple of years later was a gift to:
a) Impress his new girlfriend
b) Make my mum annoyed, being in such a shit financial position and she couldn't provide me anything like that.

So I think that was half of it, my Dad was swimming in money while with Mum she was just trying to get by, using gifts to one-up her.

>> No.645161

All I had for most of my life was a Genesis with Sonic 1 and 2, and I cried when my dad brought me home a transparent blue N64.
Any game I owned or rented I would play over and over for hours and hours. I really appreciated any games I had, which was good because we were poor as fuck and games were really expensive. I just didn't get to play a ton of games like most kids, since I was playing the same shit forever enjoying it.

I was born in Ukraine and until the year 2000 I didn't even had a chance to play vidyo at all. (I was 9 by the time)

also simlar story with my father however he was an alcoholic asshole and I usually had only bunch of toys that my mom bought me when she could.

thanks to my older sister her boyfriend got a win98 PC back in the day and it was the first time I played some vidyo.

my first games were:

duke nukem 3d
quake
doom
half life
serious sam
and one russian game called allods - evil islands

I regret fucking nothing. thanks mom and sis.

Only time I complained was when my sister left my Game Boy Pocket unattended on a table at a cousin's party when I was 6 (shes a year older)

She asked to borrow it and I stupidly did..she got bored, left it on a table and left for the jumper. 5 minutes later and after searching everywhere I broke down and yelled at my mom because she said I was making a scene. That was the only system they bought me till the Game Cube, I loved that Pocket because my dad put in a shitload of overtime to get it and took me to Toys R Us to pick it out ;_;

Only other console I got was a Genesis as a hand me down from a cousin who stole it originally

The closest I've been doing something like OP was back in 1999.

On Christmas Eve I went to the mall with dad and saw an N64 demo unit running Donkey Kong 64. After playing a little bit, I told my dad "this game is complete garbage, I can't imagine anyone having fun with it".

I had 2 brothers, so usually, whatever my Brothers got became mine to use as well, so the video games we got were decent, and we were always grateful.

But my Dad is horrible about vidya, my mum told me this.

>Be somewhat young
>Have 2 brothers older than me
>They get a Mega Drive for Christmas about a year before the Saturn because my mum bought it for them
>Dad doesn't give a shit about vidya
>Next Christmas
>Mum buys a Saturn and puts it away for Christmas
>Christmas eve
>We're all asleep
>Dad has gone to the airport to say goodbye to relatives etc.
>She sets out everything during the night
>Can't find the Saturn
>Looks all over the house
>Dad comes home
>Mum asked him has he seen the saturn
>"Oh yeah, the kids already had one so I gave it to our relatives who were leaving at the airport"
>years later find out about this and what happened to the Saturn
>mum tells me the relatives took it apart, and couldn't put it back together again, and just threw it away.

She wasn't poor or anything, but the Saturn was pretty expensive at that time, and the thing is, this wasn't the first time, he did this again with a SNES, when my mum learnt about vidya, she wanted to buy us a console, and when she went to buy it, she asked at the shop which is better, the people on the checkout argued over which was better, and she just dished out £400+ to buy both. When Christmas came round, my mum set out both consoles, and then a few hours later my dad comes home, and takes the SNES saying that "1 is enough" and then gives it to the above relatives.

It's annoying as well, I really want a Saturn now, and they're expensive.
