Correct.
I used to prefer DKC2, but upon replaying the games, I realized I actually enjoy DKC1 more, despite not having all the crazy unlockable secret levels, the flow and pacing of DKC1 is perfect.

Good taste.
I think DKC2 is still probably the best, but DKC1 just might have the best atmosphere out of the bunch (or what someone else might call "soul") and simple, less gimmicky, mostly horizontal gameplay. Nice soundtrack too, even if it's made by three people, and having to compare it to the masterpiece that is the DKC2 soundtrack.
Nowadays the first game is the one I'm most likely to replay as well, though admittedly it's also the the one I have the most nostalgia toward. Just recently finally found all the secrets in the levels.

>> No.6442324

DKC1 used to be my favorite, but returning back to it made it feel empty. I think it's simply because the graphics are less interesting, the climax is more tame, and there's not much verticality. Still a good game though, I really like all of them.

What a great trilogy, actually.
>1 has comfy kong island setting, nothing crazy or original but damn solid and oozes soul and atmosphere everywhere, perfect design
>2 is one of the best sequels in history of video games, picks up right in the same setting of DKC1's final boss fight, and keeps a darker, more spooky theme with pirates and a cursed Kremling island

More of a fan of 1's soundtrack personally. Many of dkc2's tracks feature an awfully similar melody which can make them feel homogeneous while dkc1's soundtrack nails the atmosphere for every different environment it features.

Agreed. I wouldn't even dispute anyone's opinion. All very comfy and cool. 1 has the soundtrack, 2 has the best balance, 3 is the black sheep but very unique. The real answer is to just play them all--as is often the case with threads like these.

That's 1/4 of the entire game, and it is not even mentioning how it is stretched or the more meme shit like the missing cutscenes. Spergs here freak out about other ports for much less.

I always go back between DKC 2 and DKC 1 for being the best. DKC 1 is definitely the more atmospheric one but I love how fast paced DKC 2 is. I can play through both any day with no complaints. Just depends on my mood in the moment I guess. I still like DKC 3 but I definitely think its too cartoonish if that makes sense. I kinda like the serious tones and themes of the first 2.

It does have soul, and people exaggerate the collectathon elements of it. I had fun doing a 101% file without rushing it, just taking my time and exploring all the levels and the kong island.
Boss battles are pretty good actually.
My only real complaint is that some mini games can be bullshit, but still not game-ruining.
That said, I do prefer the DKC games over DK64, of course, but DK64 is still nice.
Plus it has the Rare and Nintendo coins which filtered many a zoomers, so extra points for that (+ having the only home port of the original arcade DK until the Switch got one)

I really have to disagree. It cheapens the experience a lot imo. If I see translucent blue bananas I don't need to rush to get Lanky. Just stay in the moment. Choose your character based on moves and mobility you want to enjoy controlling for the time being. Take your time. Come back later.

All 3 DKCs are good, but if you put 1 last you probably have a really awful opinion somewhere. Like, "the bonus rooms don't mean anything" or "the music 'isn't as good' (with the glaring subtext being that the person doesn't understand or appreciate minimalism/ambient)."

>> No.6458584

Around World 3 DKC1 starts getting kinda boring, there's little variation of obstacles and it feels like you're doing the same thing over and over.
DKC2 holds my attention all the way through, there's way more to talk about the game and it demands more diverse button inputs from you, it went from being a decent albeit a bit generic platformer with pretty graphics to being a truly fun platformer with pretty graphics.
DKC3 is good, but on replay I found that it didn't hold up as well as DKC2, back in the day I was really indecisive if 2 or 3 was the better one, but it's pretty clear now, 2 is not only filled with imagination and better setting/enemies, but it's also the most challenging of the trilogy, that adds some points.
That said, all the games are good.
