Hey, /vr/. Maybe you can help with this.

I'm planning on opening a small arcade game centre soonish with a couple of friends. I want to have some of our cabinets running old school Japanese games, so I've been looking up online for some of the games I've played back in the day.

Here's what I'll probably get so far:

Final Fight.
Parodius da!
Gokujou Parodius.
Galaxy Fight.
Waku Waku 7.
Rockman 2 Power Fighters.
Dai Makaimura (Ghouls'n Ghosts).
Valkyrie no Densetsu.
Metal Slugs on NeoGeo.

All games will be Japanese versions as we have a friend in Japan who can get them for us. Also, one of my friends already has a decent collection of fighting games so the obvious ones will be running as well (Super Turbo, 3rd Strike, KoF, Fatal Fury, etc).

Any game suggestions or input welcome.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but have you made a market study yet to assess whether or not it will be succesful or not?

Yup.

My friend ran one for several years before selling his shop due to personal issues. (It's still in business today under the new owner) We're hoping to make an even better arcade this time around.

>> No.643381

um lol who goes to an arcade now when u can just play call of duty at home with ur friends???
No seriously OP, what kind of area do you live in? A large city?

>> No.643402

>>643371

Well, it really depends on where you live, I guess. I only asked because it sucks doing a massive investment on something that ends up failing. But if you're sure about it, go for it. As for my suggestion: Shadows of Mystara. Make it happen.

... though, since the game is a bit text heavy (an oddity for an Arcade game) you might want to consider obtaining an American version instead.

>> No.643404

While it would be really nice to have arcades again, the only people in America who would go to them now are hipsters looking for nerd cred or whatever. I wish you luck but I doubt this will be a very profitable venture.

OP you are not in the 90's anymore.

Your arcade centre will be a total failure because people now plays in their xbox instead of getting outside, know people and make friends. going to the arcades.

I don't understand this board's fascination with "hipsters." "Histers" as you call them are more interested in music than video games.

>> No.643451

>>643414

I'm just using it as a catch-all for people not really interested in the medium, but will still claim themselves a fan of it to look cool.

Thanks for your concern. I'm fairly confident about this venture though.
>Shadows of Mystara
Interesting... Is this a beat em up? I love beat em ups. Will look into it.

>>643404
Good thing I'm not in America then. We do have a decent arcade community here, so let's hope for the best.

as a self-diagnosed skinny jean wearing, dollar store sunglass-bearing hipster who listens primarily to shoegaze and late 90s psych pop, i can confirm that absolutely nobody i know gives a shit about what video games i play, or that i play them at all.

i've been playing a lot of black crypt recently.

OP, you have to promise to come back and tell us when your arcade slides into obscurity from middling interest and your friendships are destroyed because you decided to 1) Have partners and 2) Those partners being your friends.

Unless it's just gonna be an expensive as fuck hang-spot. Then more power to you.
