What are something things you didn't know existed in their time and only found out about later?
>Didn't know SEGA made anything between the Mega Drive and Dreamcast
>Didn't know SNK had any hardware
>Thought Street Fighter stopped at Alpha

I was a nintendo kid born in 1985 and I didn't know the master system existed until a few years ago. I thought genesis was the first one.

If you had passed any newstand/magazine rack with gaming magazines of the time you would have seen PSX, Saturn, N64, Neo Geo printed boldly somewhere on the cover. Whatever the current or upcoming consoles where had their names all over the covers of every gaming mag. The same was done with game titles for new and upcoming releases.

Neo-Geo not so much. And depending where you lived at the time you may not have seen magazines at all. I lived in rural georgia in the 90's. And the ONLY place within a 25 mile radius that had a (poor) selection of video game magazines was the supermarket. The game magazines sucked and I hardly went because as a child my mom did all the shopping. I even remember not knowing FF9 came out until I saw it for sale at costco. I was a huge Final Fantasy fan and its release totally went under my radar. For some people access to magazines was limited and the internet was limited.

Never knew the person who VA'd Sarah Kerrigan from SC and BW was also the VA for Julie Winters from The Maxx animated series, even though I was familiar with both.
Never knew there was an Ace Ventura graphical adventure game. Based off of the animated show, not the movies.
I knew about that weird graphical adventure game Prince made, but I didn't know Devo, Rednex, Peter Gabriel, Queensrÿche, the Residents, and the Rolling Stones also made weird graphical adventure games too.
Never knew there was a full Simpsons themed After Dark collection of screensavers and whatnot for Win3.1.

I only ever remember dedicated Nintendo and PS1 magazines.

I had no idea most westerners never grew up playing famicom classics like Circus Charlie, Battle City or Twin Bee. I had a famiclone but I always assumed it had all the same games as the NES.

Didn't know that video games have soul, especially retro video games. Retro video games have soul, and new video games have no soul. Thank you 4chan.

Didn't know Atari was still a thing with the 7800. Never laid eyes one or even heard about it back in the day.

Happened to me too with the SG-1000. Turns out Master System wasn't the first one either.

I guess I'll repeat myself but I didn't know there was a first party RF adapter for the Playstation line. It was plug and play all the way up to the last PS3 redesign.

For years I thought Symphony Of The Night and Nocturne In The Moonlight were two completely different games. All I heard about the Saturn one was that you played as Maria and it sucked, so I never looked into it.
