There may be some exceptions, but I think they do. The Dragon's Trap guys did show respect for the original by providing optional original graphics and sound, and DmC isn't as bad as it first appears, but you're generally right

Japan is probably in the top 5 countries with the best music industry though.
Japan was always sophisticated, unironically.
Just read early journals from the first europeans who visited Japan. They were in awe at their culture and how different they were from every other asian country, how clean they were and how organized they were, in most cases even more than many western countries.

What are some good books and you have none think about this shounen jump releases are 2 thousand pages,add to that weekly jump and other weekly prodcuts and you see that normally are around 20 thousand pages of reading each month add to that smart novels (novel for smartphones) and visual novels and you see that the west don't get close to japan.
West one book reprint year over year,and some new stuff are just ripping off japanese content.
Comic books just a few each month all are 16 like 90 pages in total and they are repeating the same older comics did.
