It's an okay game, slashing with the sword is ultimately pointless, you wanna stick to throwing as much as possible, animal combos range from game breaking to useless. It also bothers me the character carries a shield but the shield is cosmetic.

It's a game with religious themes as the main plot theme that was localized in America with said themes removed, and generally badly translated. By a literal high schooler with tenuous grasp of Japanese.

Only ones hailing it as the superior version are the same who defend censored american localizations in general on principle because it validates their preference for "cultural adjustments". Sega of Europe's effort was fairly solid on this one.

There's this annoying trend of collectors hyping expensive, rare games to be these undiscovered masterpieces when I have yet to play one that was even 75% as good as some of the more common, well known acclaimed titles of the time. For example, I remember years ago seeing several youtubers say how Panzer Dragoon Saga was just as good, if not better than FF7. I thought, wow! I need to play this game! A few years later I finally bit the bullet, bought PDS, and it ended up being slightly above average, but certainly inferior to easily half of all 5th gen JRPGs I'd played.

This has been true of nearly every single "hiddem gem" I've played, with a few even being downright below average in quality and fun. I believe people do this to not only justify the stupid amount of money they likely paid for said game, but a way of making something they have seem more desirable to others so they're looked on with envy even more.

Regardless of the shitposting about youtubers, it's nice to see that other people are finally hearing about the game. It used to be one of my favorite games from my childhood and I've probably played it around 10 times all the way through. I hadn't played any of the Zelda games at that point so I didn't even notice it was a clone. Even then it has a ton of charm and the animal combination mechanics are unique. I still have a copy with the cardboard box and manual lying around somewhere
