It's not a SR game in the sense that it doesn't really implement the rules in the way the other two do but it still uses the setting.

They're completely different games so comparing them is dumb, especially since they're both must-plays for different reasons.

>Harebrained > all
Eh.
They're alright, but there are a lot of crowdfunded rpgs that feel exactly the same and all blur together for me.

At least they resurrected Shadowrun but if you make that sick-ass setting feel generic you clearly weren't using it to its potential.

SNES version is isometric view, Genesis is top view. Genesis is most recommended, but do as you must.

>> No.6403841

>>6403815
They're different in the sense that they're unrelated games with completely different gameplay, graphics, story, and soundtrack. The only connection as far as I can remember is that they both use the Shadowrun license.

The SNES version is more of an atmospheric cyberpunk action RPG/adventure game which doesn't try to simulate the tabletop much. It has a good story, lots of style and GREAT music.
I'd start with that one, personally.

The Sega one meanwhile draws more from the tabletop. More of an actual open-ended RPG, more actual shadow-running. You could start with this if you're already familiar with the setting.

What are you doing? Fuck off.

For sure, the Genesis one looks like absolute ass compared to the based snes one. If the snes one had a better combat system forget about it. The genesis one would look like an absolute turd next to it.

I think one of the major flaws of the SNES version is, for some god forsaken reason, it doesn't have the option to use the SNES mouse, which would tremendously improve the game imo.

it's funny to me that this is so true, and yet there's no hack in existence that can make it happen

I think the main problem is that the game requires more buttons than the two on the mouse to function well without a major engine rewrite.

They aren't great lit but they are competently written and a good introduction to the setting.
If you already know your Ares from your Renraku then I'd recommend 2XS, Striper Assassin and Streets of Blood instead.

mildly interesting fact, the Japanese version of the game is the US version, but has Japanese subtitles. Like literal subtitles. You have normal English textboxes.

>> No.6409406

No idea. Script defaults LMB to B button, RMB to A and wheel to X, did they change controls in JP version? Mouse pointing should work regardless, and what mouse buttons do you can simply edit in the script yourself.

>> No.6409548

>>6409356
Just by looking at the script i think even a direct rom hack would be possible to make direct (snes) mouse support. Someone should seriously try this.

I really liked what they did with Shadowrun SNES. I've played it numerous times, patched and unpatched. Kinda wish I could play a new version of it: new story, new characters, new objectives. Or hell, just an expanded version of what we got, with more runs to go on. The original game is surprisingly light on sidequests for a game based on being a mercenary for hire.

I tried the PC reboot but it just didn't scratch the same itch, you know?

I've looked into both.

I've had the Genesis rom sitting on my hard drive for years by this point, but I can never take the plunge. I can't get past its graphics. Something about it really rubs me the wrong way. One of these days I'll give it a try.

The MegaCD version seems more like a visual novel, not really my thing. That plus not being translated kills its chances.
