You'd need to sort through the files of the SDK. that was leaked. That's already a challenge, but the files are on anonfiles. You'll have to search through the archives since posting them now is a sure fire way to either get banned or the thread deleted.

From there, it'd just be coding it since you'd have the software code for the hardware.

N64 never is and was a big problem, it's only computer power to accurately emulate the N64 because of it's superior architecture.
To 100% accurately emulate it on a PC, you would be able only to play 1 Frame per minute, if at all.
By that, SDK won't improve it much, only to maybe faster implement some rare opcode stuff for 1-2 games if at all.

Ouch. not as good as I thought then. Pretty sure that's the size of the largest cartridge game for the console though. The magnetic disks where also much cheaper to produce and were hot swappable, so games could have come on like 10 disks if necessary to be the equivalent of 1 CD. Also, since they're magnetic they were rewriteable which would have enabled you to download patches through RandNet.

Hell, look at all the threads on /vr/ alone of OP asking for gameplay help or for something that could be easily googled.

A lot of lame faggots only make a thread because they are hoping someone will give them something. Very few make a thread to give or share something with others.

It's been stated before, I'll state it again.

The reason the N64 is hard to emulate is because it has by far the most complicated GPU of any console that doesn't conform in the least to any modern 3D API.

And it's unusually complicated for 1996 hardware. The vertex side is programmable as fuck, and the pixel side has a color combiner that can do some pretty weird pixel-shader like ops.

>> No.6400887

>>6400873
That doesn't really describe the situation (well except the problem of managing cartridge space I guess). Putting cartridges aside, the console only had one problem, it was way too easy to run out of memory bandwidth without insanely good optimization. But by optimization, I mean high-level refinement of really basic programming skills. Careful ordering of memory, good use of CPU L1 cache, etc. But it was genuinely hard for most developers to do.

The whole microcode situation is a bit overstated. The main reason developers wanted more control over microcode was because then they wouldn't *need* to use a z-buffer. But why wouldn't they want to use a z-buffer? The answer: it guzzles memory bandwidth like nothing else. That's literally the main reason for custom microcode.

Ehh, the cartridges were the least of it’s concern. If they added a CD drive how would it have decided CD audio? That’s extra hardware. How would you deal with the 4kb texture cache? That’s a hefty cost increase. Decoding video? The system was really designed around cartridges. I don’t think slapping a CD drive on there would have worked because it could’ve easily cost another $100 or more dollars. The PSX was a smartly designed CD system. The N64 has a great design for cartridges.

i know this i kinda straying back to the discussion earlier.
the DD discs were primarily implemented over anything else (carts, CD) because they were entirely rewriteable. you got double the storage of what most of the biggest games had, and you could use as much of it as you want for save data.

things like "footprints in the sand and smashed pots retaining permanently throughout a playthrough of oot" (plans for the game when the DD was still on the table) would have been possible.

the mario artist games are a good example of this. most of the space on the diskis dedicated to saving drawings and animations etc.

doshin the giant, with its morphable overworld that retains after turning off the game.

f zero X got a full track editor.

and while there are plenty more examples that i wont drone on about, they all are cut from the same common idea.these are all things infeasible on cartridges, or puny 4 MB flash memory cards, and would really have set nintendo apart.

and while I'm not sure if it was ever officially mentioned: i could totally see nintendo going the route of re-writable game distribution. just like on the FDS and re-programmable GB and SNES carts. they loved that kinda stuff

No, the underlying issue is the actual hardware in the N64 being some crazy wacko shit. The disk drive may have made it easier to do some homebrew hacks using the modem accessory, in fact I think somebody already did a homebrew launcher using another cart's modem port.

there's no reason why games could come on multiple cartriges (just save progress onto a controller pak, no hot swap needed)

if you replaced the fmv's with in-engine cutscenes, and consolidated the shared data between discs, i'd imagine getting it down to a 128M cart or less would be feasable

pressing cd's was so cheap that it was never a concern to have games span multiple discs, some games do it when they really don't need to at all (does gran turismo really need an arcade and simulation disc?)
they could have cut down the number of fmvs and made it 2 or 1 cd, but there was no need to, instead they just made any many fmvs as they liked, and used as many cd's as needed for that

Except that really wouldn't work. FF7's FMVs are used for in-engine scenes. Many parts are done by rendering the character models over top an FMV. The intro does it right off the bat:

Additionally, two FMVs were cut. Annette's Explanation (Ada ver.) and the True Ending Credits (which you can tell because the song is different and is not the bombastic B scenario credits song).
The only way FF7 would get ported to the N64 is if every FMV was a series of 5 or so still images, and then the discourse of today would be "Yeah, don't play FF7 on N64, worst version."

This. There isn't a single person standing to make significant money off of Super Mario 64 right now that had anything to do with actually creating it. Just modern Nintendo employees and execs that want to keep riding the money they can suck out of other peoples work, which is honestly more insulting than some kid playing something for free that you designed 20 years ago. I'd rather people pirate my work than have some corporate shills soaking up ongoing profits from something they didn't create.

GC MM is rendered at 640 x 480 instead of 320 x 240, and output at 480i or p depending on how your GameCube is hooked up to your display, but it's so poorly emulated that it crashes frequently to the point where if you were to do a casual playthrough, you should encounter a crash at least twice before finishing the game. The Wii version is just the GameCube version emulated properly so it doesn't crash and with original N64 HUD colours. That's the best version.

What do you expect, a news article? No one's gone to jail or anything, these are small cases where Nintendo legal or whoever works for Nintendo legal looks up IPs that are seeding torrents containing infringing material and forwards that information to the relevant ISP. It happened to me after torrenting Mario Sunshine just a few years ago, and then more recently over some other Nintendo game I don't remember.

So, according to IGN, Street Fighter 3, The New Generation was being ported to the N64 in 1997. Wikipedia says they were there when Capcom did a closed doors showcase, and the article mentions it.
>Although N64.com believed long ago that SF3 would arrive on 64DD (after having seen the game on test in January)
Somebody has to own a prototype right?. At least one dude from IGN witnessed the game. I've read here that allegedly, X-Men vs Street Fighter was also in development for the N64. Imagine that.

in case anyone was interested in this, I did manage to fix it up and get win32 to build, seems I was wrong, there actually is a lot of code in here for handling win32 already, I guess later on they stopped bothering to make sure win32 could still build though, but it only took like 20 minutes to get it working again.

but now there's a problem with linking, seems theres a ton of functions that got ifdef _XBOX'd out, so the code for those functions isn't being built and there's nothing for the linker to link the function calls to.
probably won't be able to fix this myself, there's like 1000+ of these missing functions, even if I spent the time to get them all working there'd probably be issues with the data files/shaders/other shit, I barely know the basics about 3D stuff so I'd be useless trying to fix that.
I'm sure if someone cared enough about the game they could probably get it working though, IIRC I never really played it much, remember that my step-bro used to love it but I never really got into it.

there's data files inside that FCMainResource dir but they're 2005 too, seems the 2006 data files are in FANTASYCORE\Data folder
FCMainResource seems to have a lot of files that aren't in the other dir though, maybe cut content/debug shit/etc? idk

hmm, guess it's not loading something from UI files properly
maybe try using FCMainResource as a base, then copy retails data files over it, overwriting etc
that should let it have everything the UI code expects hopefully, along with any extra debug files, always a chance there might be incompatible things though

sadly xenia doesn't want to load the debug XEX at all, just crashes immediately, IIRC xenia has a lot of trouble with debug games because of missing XBDM stuff, dunno why they don't have any stubs in place for it

game seems to be having issues finding files though, lots of "Unable to open file" errors, then crashes when its opening main menu...
i think these files might be inside the PackedResources paks, seems the filenames + data inside those is compressed though so kinda hard to see if they're in there or not

(saw something about using offzip to unpack but that didn't seem to work, i'll try writing an unpacker tomorrow I guess)

anyway guess this means the debug XEX doesn't load packed files for some reason, maybe could be edited to let it work, dunno

unpacker wasn't too hard, turned out offzip works fine, used "offzip -a bleh.pak" to decompress them, then I wrote a quick app to parse the filenames/offsets/sizes and extract etc.
seems all the textures are converted from .dds into some .36t compressed format though, there's a ConvertTextures tool in the source for converting dds -> 36t but not the reverse sadly, and seems debug will only load up loose dds files (not 100% sure though)

anyway i figured out debug is actually skipping these paks, needs _PACKED_RESOURCES defined for it to use them, gonna try making a debug build with that enabled now

just needs BsKernel.h edited so it always defines _PACKED_RESOURCES, use data folder from retail game, and copy data\Sound\ENG\SoundRes\ to data\Sound\SoundRes\

anyway I haven't noticed any debug stuff here yet, probably some key combo I need to press, or maybe it uses keyboard (xenia-canary kinda has support for keyboard input, it's not great though)

xam is part of X360's OS, has all the code for handling the guide/profiles/DLC/XBL, shit like that
the xamd here is from some ancient 2006 version, probably doesn't have anything special inside it but who knows, maybe it's a build to work with the XeCR crap.

the more interesting thing there is the xamd.pdb, has almost all private symbols for the X360 OS, stuff like structures/function signatures/etc
AFAIK the XCR folder that has this stuff has been going around for years around the X360 scene, I've had it since like 2011 anyway, didn't even know it came from a game's src.
there's some code for xam inside that XCR folder too but it's really incomplete, not really sure why MS would even give that out to game devs...
looks like MS might have had a close relationship with them from some of the things in here, but that doesn't really explain why they'd give them OS source code

in case anyone wants to know how that code came about, afaik that source.7z was originally part of a halo wars proto recovered from some devkits HDD, the publicly-released copy of that build has the source.7z file removed because todays proto leakers have no balls, but now you can add it back with these new leaks, and hopefully any build made from the code should work with the data from that build too

He wasn't implying he has any access to the discord, but simply that's where the file is from, whether or not the link was also posted elsewhere.

The N64 was able to do MPEG acording to the devs of the RE2 port and the existing docs, which is way more small that the MJPEG crap used by Sony for FMVs

Windows NT 3.5 RC source code apparently leaked on /vp/

mpeg support is rather pointless on n64, it has little advantage over mjpeg for stills (2d backgrounds like re2), and for video... vcd quality video (which is already pretty minimal) is cd 1x rate, or 176.4K/s, so you'd only fit about 1.5 minutes of video in an average-size 16M cartridge.. by itself

the file and its password were discovered in a /vr/ thread about the game, dunce. i'm not saying he found the dicksore link somewhere else.

This thread will die soon, because /vp/ leaked the source code of gen 3 games.

It was on IRIX. There is a qemu IRIX thing that's working for running the IRIX binaries.

(there was a demo on some SGI hardware though. Video is for ants.)
Anyway, BroadOn wouldn't have had the files for that. And apparently Square hasn't even been able to keep their FMV's for FF7, so I highly doubt that the FF SGI demo still was in their systems anyway.
