It had a decent Japan-only sequel Royal Stone with some really good sprite work. The gameplay is kinda broken but it looks like a Genesis game. I also liked Defenders of Oasis, Shining Force, Dragon Crystal and Ax Battler. It was a pretty good system for puzzle games as well.

I think you'd like it, then, because a lot of its appeal is its visuals. It's also on Master System (Mark III), but it requires a paddle controller to play that one (I think many emulators also let you analog stick to substitute for the Sega paddle controller, thankfully).

One of my favorite games on the system. Like with most Game Gear music (including from games previously mentioned in this thread), the music in this game is extremely engrossing and relaxing, especially in combination with the soft colors of its graphics.

Sonic 2 on it is extremely frustrating. I didn't get past the first level until over a decade after I first played it. The Master System version is (iirc) exactly the same game except with a slight sprite alteration of Sonic and easier difficulty, fyi.

The system was a complete rip off. Had it had much better battery life and even a later revision in design like GB got multiple times it could have been something. I'm sure some of its games are decent but I never played much of it. This shit needed that adapter for sure. Six batteries for 2 hours of gameplay is absurd.

Yeah, that's the problem. It's a nice system with some good games and the battery problem can easily be solved with a number of modern backlighting solutions. But the screen is still shit and even if you pay silly money for a turd that looks better you still have something about the size of a switch but about twice as thick.

The battery thing was definitely what sunk the system. Unless you bought the adapter, you couldn't really enjoy a decent session, and the adapters had a short lifespan. I went through 3 or 4 before I had one custom made (and it still works).
The screen was amazing for its time but it was simply too much of a drain.

I friend of mine had one back in the early 90s and I thought it was okay, even back then. Despite it being from my childhood to a degree I've never had any desire to collect for it or play any of the games on it. I've still never owned one despite coming across hundreds of them over the years.

Had a lot of great experiences with my GG. We had the car adapter and the middle row had its own cig lighter so I had my setup right there. Was great in box/blanket forts. Used to go to friends parents houses for dinner a lot and it was always brought with me.
