So there was a brief mention of how to target planets/stars with better resource yields at the start of the game but it was pretty brief so I'm not entirely sure what to do. I just want to minimize time spent farting around in the dumb resource collection minigame and get on with the story, so far I'm just checking every world, ignoring those with common materials, sniping Xo Crystals off Ruby worlds and taking note of really tough ones for later when I have the lander improvements I've heard about. It seems like I should ignore giant stars for now since planets around Alpha Centauri had temperatures above 1k Celsius.

In addition, can you deploy cruisers alongside your flagship in combat, or is it always a 1v1? So far they just seem like extra crew storage.

fuck your glorified visual novel meme game. play a real game like final fight.

I think discovering new planets (farting around) is a main gameplay point of starcontrol games. I think it's pretty exciting because sometimes you find something. I am playing scorigins right now, and do exactly the same. I love it. Because some planets are unique. Don't remember how to spot resource heavy planets. But I think they are rainbow-colored.

And yes, ship fights are always 1v1. Your main ship is your trumb card if everything goes wrong. Other ships are useful vs certain enemies. You have to figure that out. It's also exactly like in scorigins. After you play the game long enough you will notice how one ship type, counters another type pretty well.

I don't get this game at all, feels like a mess of thrown together shitty minigames, Sid Meier did it better with Pirates! and Covert Action.

What are you fuckin retarded? It mixes planetary exploration with dog fights and space opera goodness. It's a nice mixture that pirates didn't pull off as well. Not to mention the story and fucking awesome alien races that are unique as fuck compared to any space game ever.I think you're just a brainlet, little guy. There's no other way for you not to get it. You probably think drake is a good rapper too.

yeah use melee to find nice ship pairings. e.g., spathi are good against kohr-ah.

they might be trolling or they might not be, who cares?

for many people, especially those who grew up with pc gaming, this is one of the best things we ever played.

for me, it was everything: the story, the melee, the exploration, the music; constantly discovering things and being surprised...

The Spathi ship is good against almost everything because it's so fast. But actually blowing up enemy ships with it will always be slow work. There is almost nothing it cannot kill, you will just spend your entire memevirus furlough killing it

You don't even have to be a miner if you are good at melee. Get all the radioactives from io (jupiter) for startup capital, and rescue Fwiffo from Pluto, and assault enemy fleets and salvage.

Here is a listing of high-yield mineral planets, relatively low-risk, and close to Sol.

Epsilon Volantis 4: 70.5 x 183.8
Gamma Lacaille 3 - 2nd moon: 24.2 x 85.7
Alpha Giclas 7 - 2nd moon: 84.3 x 38
Gamma Volantis 1: 104.8 x 191.9
Alpha Ptolemae 7 - 1st moon: 200.4 x 44.1
Eta Giclas 4: 70.8 x 4.1
Epsilon Volantis 3 - 3rd moon: 70.5 x 183.8
Alpha Bootis 5: 22.9 x 266.6

The planets themselves are mostly safe to land on, though most of these are in Illwrath space. I recommend selling your Earthling cruiser and collecting all the radioactives you can in Sol, or clean it out of mineral if you wish. Pic related is my recommended setup to get you good manuverability against the Illwrath, and have enough room for the minerals. You should earn enough in this run to take you through most, or all of the game if you're careful.

You're welcome. Planets are listed in order of value, and you're not going to be able to clean out all of them in one run with three cargo bays. Avoid combat as best you can, and plot your route carefully. Be mindful of your fuel. But above all, have fun. SC2 is a blast!
