What do you think of the modern perception that retro Sega was primarily a home video game company locked in battle with Nintendo? Seems most people completely ignore their arcade heritage.

>> No.6377784

Nothing.

>> No.6377785

I don't think so, if anything, nowadays more people mention arcade when mentioning Sega.
>oh yes, Sega, they were arcade-focused, the Sega Saturn had a lot of arcade ports! Check out this obscure shmup for Genesis I saw on metal jesus.
Back in the day Sega was known for both, but most people nowadays don't even talk about Virtua Fighter or Daytona (except for memeing about the theme song)

>> No.6377793

Everybody thinks arcade when they gear Sega. A Naomi in your home woah bros.

>>6377785
I still cant get over how shit Daytona 3 was. It feels like a bad indie game by somebody just learning Unreal.

>Daytona 3
Was that the one that got leaked for PC? It was soulless but still pretty fun.

>> No.6377849

>>6377780
Is that the modern perception? Maybe by clueless zoomers? I tend to think of SEGA as the undisputed kings of the arcade, that miraculously survived an entire decade of making the worst possible choices when it came to home hardware

Debatable...

They're not insolvent, so.

By most people you mean americans. Merica loves to combine the words fail and sega. The irony is, sega never cared that much about the home consumer market. Their focus was mainly arcades. The consoles thing was a side business.

>how shit Daytona 3 was
Technically its an outsourced game. Sega didnt make it. Its by some tiny welsh dev studio. Same as sega rally 3.

THEIR ARCADE HERITAGE IS MY LOVE AND MY EVERGREEN! I CAN'T REVEAL MY POWER LEVEL EVEN TO OTHER SEGA FANS IN PERSON BECAUSE WHENEVER I TELL PEOPLE I LIKE SEGA ALL I HEAR ABOUT IS THAT BLUE PRICK! OUTRUN, AFTERBURNER, SPACE HARRIER, GALAXY FORCE, HANG ON, SUPER HANG ON, FANTASY ZONE, ALIEN SYNDROME, I COULD PLAY ALL THAT SHIT FOR EONS!

People nowdays are doesn't bother to read long text with plenty of information about sega or nintendo anymore.

Because that's when their brand was at its strongest in the west, and treating the console market like an extension of their Japanese arcade presence turned out to be their downfall.

I only realized Sega was an "arcade" company in the last few years, when I started digging into libraries. When I was a kid there weren't any noteworthy Sega arcade games. To me, the arcade was Street Fighter, X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, Turtles in Time and WrestleMania.

>> No.6379853

Aside from the sonic / Mario bs, Sega and Nintendo was like apple's and oranges growing up -- both were good and had a lot to offer

people on this board by and large know actually zero about video games I'm finally starting to realize, don't know why it took me this long

Sega still no. 1 in Japanese arcades

6th gen would be an absolute godsend because people might actually know something about what they're talking about half the time and we can stop having the same 10 threads over and over and have the same 20 instead

My zoomer cousins who watch gaming content on YouTube know that SEGA was all about bringing the arcade experience home, but again that’s because they hear it from the videos. They watch a lot of YouTube so they actually surprise me with the trivia they know. Zoomers who are actually interested in learning and go and look for informative material are actually pretty based.

Based SEGA bro

even back in the day I wasn’t much of a Sonic kid, I was more of a Shinobi and Hang On kid. The movie theater down the road from my house had a machine there and I put so much time on it.

like how much worse can it get, all it is now is

>5th gen console war thread
>clueless question easily answered by google
>Is Xenogears/insert "divisive" game here, a good game or does it actually suck?
>FF7 shitpost
>90 more threads on square games
>doom general
>The dreamcast is shit/the dreamcast is great

>crt general
>hey guys i'm looking at getting a mini console/arcade1up, would you recommend?
>you /did/ edit your mario 64 rom, right anon?

like just insane amounts of cancer and any thread that contains quality discussion or is on an interesting topic fizzles out in like 10 posts unless it turns into a sperg slapfight over something maybe tangentially related to the original topic. why not just fucking let in melee trannies at this point
