Do you want the original carts for authenticity reasons or would you settle for shell repros? Reproduction carts tend to run a lot cheaper, and I know that it's getting to the point where the Pokemon carts are starting to having their batteries fail and die.

Not really, no, unless they did a poor job of flashing the ROM to begin with. To answer your original question about overwriting the original ROM carts, in theory you could but it's meant to be Read-Only Memory for a reason and it's a lot easier to just use pre-made carts. I know they make blank carts that you can flash your own ROMs to (that are not drag-and-drop flashcarts) but typically they just sell the repros ready to play.

A repro is stealing IP. There is profit being made off stealing IP because they manufacture their own games using the exact game the dev made. The flash cart isn't selling the IP of Nintendo, or whatever dev and there's no roms in it. Krikzz is OBJECTIVELY not profiting off stolen IP. It's up to the end user to pirate. A flash cart also doesn't affect the collector's market or put out repros that look nearly identical, which forces people to open those carts and carefully examine the motherboard to prove they're authentic.
