are there any other games like powerslave?

On PC? Dozens. On PS1? Maybe Disruptor, but the choices are limited.

You might like the Thysis (read: Egyptian) hub of Hexen II.

Also, not technically retro but I'd heartily recommend Serious Sam if you liked Powerslave.

Played botht the Psx and the Saturn version and it's a great game. Saturn was better as far as I remember. I would try both though.

My main issue with the saturn version is it runs like shit by modern standards whereas the Powerslave EX runs like butter.

Any other games where you become the King of the World by the end? I don't think so. It's also admirable how the protagonist is an actually realistic and average guy. It was quite unusual for games of this era.

Shadowman and Turok can be kinda jank but share the same "going back and forth collecting powerups to clean up areas you've previously visited" metroidvania style of exploration. Metroid Prime is only dated in controls but so is power slave.

Best would be to try out PowerslaveEX port for the Saturn/PS version, and sirlemonhead's PC port of Powerslave for the DOS version. Both work fine in Windows 10 64 bit.

You can find them both in a .rar here:

https://mega.nz/folder/y1sRHSqb#iC34TYjpr5fWmDpAgSpybQ

Under Windows 98 Games, then simply extract to a location and play

My issue with Metroid Prime is how slow it is. It never feels enjoyable to actually move Samus around the world and engage with things in it. Combat especially is an absolute chore past the half way point.

Prime Target, sort of. It's set in a single large hub-like skyscraper with levels divided between floors that require keys and quest items. But there aren't any power-ups. Uses the Marathon engine.

It's a little more eurominimalist which in this case I don't care for. Show off the cool enemy designs and the wicked environments. It's much cooler that way. The only thing wrong with it is the mercenary has a shotgun. This isn't some Ico vs Ico scenario. The angle and energy of the art even reminds me of this fine work of 90s pulp.

>> No.6369127

>>6369117
I dunno - exhumed has a much more ominous cover which is a good fit for the game (especially if you get the bad end) whereas as you say powerslave is more in your face and - for once - actually representative of gameplay.

Chunky combat like some build engine games, but very smooth movement. Feels like each part of it was carefully considered. First attempts at levels feel lengthy but when you revisit them to do a secret or an alternate route you feel like you have total power of it, weaving in and out of it like it's nothing.
