What are some weird or interesting PC ports? I got the Windows 95/98 version of Sonic 3D Blast a while ago and know that Sonic CD and Sonic 3 & Knuckles got the same treatment. I never played PC games back then and was wondering what other sorts of ports there were, Sega PC Collection or not

I managed to find this on markdown for $14.99 at Hastings, before the game was even too old. It was worth it just for the free controller.
It has some shortcomings (e.g. the "blob" boss doesn't stretch, MIDI music etc) but it wasn't a bad alternative to the SNES version.

Pitfall The Mayan Adventure has a PC port for Windows 95.
>highest resolution vs all other versions
>also has the Sega CD OST
BEST version. The music doesn't work on anything newer than Windows 98 though. PCEm or old PC required.

I used to play some ancient KoF 2001 PC port with my uncle
I don't remember it using an emulator, but I can't track down that particular version again

Golden Axe had a PC port where you could go into the game data and change any character into another one by renaming the files. So you could play the whole game as Death Adder fighting an army of gnomes if you wanted.

Pitfall for PC didn't have the highest resolution (I'm pretty sure it ran at 320x200, a slightly lower resolution than most of the other versions). However, what makes it the definitive version is that it's the only version with the expanded palette that (if you had the hardware capable for it) ran at a smooth 60fps (having the CD OST helped things as well).

Also, interesting thing to note, Pitfall for PC was the one of the first (if not the first ever) games released that required Windows 95 to run.

Aww shit nigga, I had this plus Panzer Dragoon and Sonic CD. I used to leave Sonic CD in the drive and have that glorious soundtrack for Interstate `76 and Civilization II.

Good memories, thanks Anon.

Sonic PC fag here. These were my first sonic games ever, and we owned several of them during the Win98 era. From memory:
Sonic and Knuckles Collection
Sonic 3D Blast
Sonic CD
Sonic R

All got ports. The Sonic CD port is interesting, because it uses the US soundtrack, but still has the secret Japanese sound test images in the code (these were removed from Sonic CD on steam). The Sonic R port is excellent, but I have NEVER gotten the music to work. This might be due to compatibility with older 90s sound card solutions.

Oh and Sonic & Knuckles collection has a FULL MIDI SOUNDTRACK, with many of the tracks being new compositions the original genesis version didn't have. If you are a sonic fan and want to check out some odd history, these ports are interesting and worth trying out. Not sure about Win10 compatibility but Win7 could run a few of those games.

>The Sonic R port is excellent, but I have NEVER gotten the music to work.
There was supposedly a print run of Sonic R PC where they forgot to put in the music.
>Oh and Sonic & Knuckles collection has a FULL MIDI SOUNDTRACK, with many of the tracks being new compositions the original genesis version didn't have. If you are a sonic fan and want to check out some odd history
>not knowing these were the original compositions from the 1993 proto leaked last year
>implying sonic autists don't already know about this
How new are you?

Sounds like I'm responding to his post with what I know. I had no idea about the Sonic R PC missing music. Feel free to bless op with your knowledge, anon.

I had a PC port that included Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R in it. Sonic R was fucking cool at the time, because I remember watching my cousin play Sonic Adventure 2 Battle a lot (but I didn't have a Gamecube). So it was the closest thing for me.
