Haven't played this game since I was a week lad in the late 90s, and I was worried it would be one of those things better left to childhood memories.

Boy, was I wrong. This game is kino af

Bomberman 64 is fucking awesome, the first game I ever had for the N64, my parents bought it for me together with the console for xmas, one of the best xmas ever, good times

its a very comfy game with a great aesthetic. i got filtered by the SP as kid, couldn't figure it out. but i was like 8 or 9. played the multiplayer a ton though.

you can overclock this game if emulating now
no more slowdown drastically improves the already great multiplayer

Bomberman 64 has an adventure game mode too, it's not just Bomberman although it does have a nice multiplayer with player customization.

Once I temp traded my literal ghetto nigger friend Goldeneye for this, and despite always causing trouble and getting into fights at school, he didn't steal this. Very chill dude. I hope he's doing all right.

I've never played this, how does it compare to Bomberman Hero?

>> No.6355347

>>6355336
It's mostly worse single-player than Hero's but better single-player than every other game besides Hero. It also has the best multiplayer of all the games due to 3D fields and analog control.

Okay, now get every gold card without a walkthrough or cheating and let us know what you think after that.

>> No.6355406

Hell yeah, I love the Bomberman 64 games. 64, Second Attack and Hero are all old favorites.

Ignore >>6355351 and just use a guide to get the gold cards once you run out of patience looking on your own. It’s neat to see how secretly expansive some levels can get and the secret world are worth it.

>>6355347
It’s not really comparable to hero. They’re both too different.

All I know is that the OST is GOAT.
What would be the best way to play this besides having an actual game cart?

>> No.6356996

It bugs the fuck out me that Bomberman Hero is so much more famous than 64/64TSA, Hero is a dime-a-dozen N64 platformer while 64 duo are unique puzzle adventure games that have had nothing else like them since

speaking of which, have you guys played Spiral Knights? I like how Spiral Knights which is free to play on steam seems to take a lot of design ideas from this game. that robot knight thing is interesting. the game is so-so but if you got that Bomberman 64 itch and got nothing to play anymore, this is might be a good alternative.

>getting the gold cards
As a kid I think I found one or two of them. Luckily the copy I rented had a save file already at the final world with all the gold cards found lol. I got so mad trying to get one in the first ice level (I think it's up a slope or something) and I just couldn't figure out how you get up to the card. I started playing this game again last month and was hoping it would be super easy as an adult but I was wrong. I'm at that ice level and still don't understand it. The low frame rates are killing my eyes.

>> No.6358162

>>6358098
IIRC you gotta find somewhere else on that map which drops you onto the ice ramp on the opposite side from the card, so that you have the most possible momentum you could have from that side.

What about the OTHER Bomberman 64?
IMO one of the best in the series, not as good as the Super or Saturn Bombermans, but it's up there after those. It also gets extra points for being 4-players without the need on multitap.

Remember to beat the game with all the gold cards under 3 hours to unlock the gold armor.
I tried doing it for the first time without cheating a few years back and it was surprisingly easy. Ended up finishing in around 2 hours with both the gold cards and all the clothes. I did shutdown the console whenever a boss fight wasn't going well though.

Which is the best of the Bomberman N64 games? I've seen opinions everywhere and I've actually never played them myself. I've played most of the Nintendo system Bomberman games (minus the SNES Panic Bomber, SNES B-Daman, and the B-Daman GBC games) but, never got around to playing the N64 games.

>>6366358
Hero is great and uses a jump mechanic. It's my favourite

Second attack is good because you get special bombs after beating each boss and it's co-op (friend controls the little buddy)

First one is also really good and sticks to the can't jump, use normal bombs scenario. All three are unique but Hero controls really well. It does feel like a generic platformer to most people though.

>> No.6366858

>>6366358
Play 64 first, THEN play Second Attack.

You can play Hero before, in between or after those two. Makes no difference. This one is a stand alone spinoff. Fun platformer, really weird but with a great ost.

TSA is my favorite cause of nostalgia but 64 or Hero are the ones I'd most recommend. Honestly there really isn't a best one, they're all very different.

bdaman and bm seem to have some sort of strange connection to eachother. bdman toys were big for a year in america in the early 2000s and i had no idea what they were, but bought a bunch because they reminded me quite a bit of bm64s designs. I was super shocked years later when i found out there was official bm bdaman cross over toys, and to this day i still have no clue what the history between those two franchises is.

>> No.6367936

>>6367148
Bomberman is based on a very old series of once popoular gachapon toys which were essentially smaller, cheaper bdaman—the inspiration for Bomberman’s design is directly copied from these, down to the ball-on-stick limbs, television-shaped head and antenna, and the belt across his torso. In fact, that belt is based on what is frequently the only differently-colored plastic on the toys, which is the little plastic clip which holds a marble there, and can evert at the push of a button to pump the marble forward out of the belly. (The bombs were also based on these marbles, though due to graphical limitations of the original Bomberman arcade game they just depicted him as conjuring them out from nowhere when he was eventually brought to 3-D). Setting and then kicking a bomb forward is the closest maneuver to these gachapons.
Later, Bdaman was conceived not long after the first iteration of Beyblades, trying to cash in on the same market—collectible, heavily modifiable, slightly edgy plastic toys based on a traditionally very cheap plastic toy, albeit much higher quality plastic and with molding designed to prevent the plastic seams from getting in the way of the toy doing its job (that’s a common problem with toys you get out of a gumball machine; a cheap yoyo will often have fins of plastic at the seam of the mold which interfere with it by catching on the string, for example. Spinning tops and bombermen would have similar problems where this could throw off the weight or catch on the marble). And, like Beyblades, Bdaman were given a heavy focus on competition—you COULD battle spinning tops with other players before Beyblade, but there weren’t a lot of standardized tops of comparable quality you could use in order to claim that it was a fair match. Similarly, the rules for Bdaman appeared to be based on a game you could play with these cheap gachapon where you try to get your marble past your opponent.
