Anyone else thing that the original was far, far better than 64?

The original was better because the animations were physics based.
>banging off the ground

Just fucking felt more solid.

I like the 64 better mostly because it feels better having a joystick to pilot your ship.

Either way I love both.

The N64 title was the first game I ever played that felt really cinematic to me.

Getting the skill to hard route Venom and then that ending... perfection. Mwah.

Oh my god you better fucking believe it. Far better atmosphere, far better music, mostly better bosses and there was just a whole lot of great secrets and shit. That and like you said, it felt darker and was actually challenging as opposed to walk-in-the-park 64.
Sucks that on the actual hardware/accurate emulation it gets to some fucking unbearable framerates, and there's no chance in hell it'll ever officially be remade.

im absolutely convinced that had nintendo released this game instead of scrapping it for starfox 64, it would have been the most revolutionary game of gen 4. it makes me sad so many of the ideas in this game were spread out into different games which weakened all of their collective impact.

not gona lie. Starfox 64 looked like it couldve used some more time in the oven. The jittery-talking heads and bad voice acting made me cringe.

Starfox snes, however looked like it was polished to a mirror sheen before getting out the door. Like they checked, checked, and re-checked it until they squeezed every drop from the SNES and FX chip.

>jittery talking heads
>bad voice acting

These are pretty much aesthetics, and they can easily be ignored and you'd still have an enjoyable experience. If you don't like them, you can disable them, or just emulate the european version that allows you to switch back to the original SNES voices. I can't say I absolutely liked the voices in the game, but they were memorable enough for me that I remember having memorized the entire script at one point. Shit was also pretty impressive back in the day.

>Like they checked, checked, and re-checked it until they squeezed every drop from the SNES and FX chip.

I have to disagree here. While Star Fox was a quality game, it wasn't nowhere near as taxing on the console as other, later games. It was optimized to hell and back, and if you've ever played Star Fox 2, you'll notice that the chip itself still had alot more untapped potential. The game is good, mind you, but it relied mostly on the custom chip rather than the console.

Star Fox 64 was a good game.
Star Fox for snes was a good proof of concept, it was done to prove that the snes could do 3D but it looks horrible, and the gameplay isnt very good because of the massive slowdown. If you think its the better of the two it's most likely because you have fond memories of it.

>> No.636196

I think it has the better look, music, difficulty, and over all tone.

Though N64 offers a wider variety of gameplay and has all that quotable and hilarious voice acting.

They're both great, but the original is definitely my favorite.

Did you only play it on emulators or something? It doesn't slow-down too often.

I like both for a lot of different reasons.

The original has way better music. I really loved some of the bosses that didn't make it to 64. For example that spider boss on meteor holy shit was that cool.

Some people say it looked horrible but for Snes pulling that kind of semi 3-D was fucking amazing at the time and still kind of blows my mind what they could do with it.

People make fun of the freakish designs but I thought it was kind of cool and unique. I also love the actual designs and art for the Arwings which make them look like they're made of some kind of heavier metal or something. I don't know they just looked sleek but also awesome. Just look at pic related, how do these ships even fly? Still looks really cool imo.

64 has a lot of good stuff in it too, and it's overall a bit more polished. Less slowdowns, a lot more in the way of story and characters, and alternate routes mid-game are a good change up too.

I could go on comparing every little thing but essentially I love both games, but maybe the original a little more because it made a huge impression on me when I first played it as a kid.

Oh and I must mention Star Fox 2. Really sad it never got made because it's really good. If you liked 1 give it a shot.

The Star Fox 1 Arwings had an old-school Star Wars sort of vibe to them.

I love both hard to tell which one I prefer, I have a little preference for the n64 because you can save and the story is way better, but both are great, and starfox represents the top of the snes for me, superFX chip was so unbelievable by the time
