How do you play Sega Saturn games?

>> No.6340161

>>6340156
On a shitty laptop.

I really do want to go with something that emulates the hardware better, especially since, like N64, the emulation is hit and miss and the controller is unique.

Beetle Saturn core on Retroarch with an 8BitDo M30 or summat with an analogue stick for the games that use that. Mostly just Saturn Bomberman though

on a polymega.

I tried running that but it tells me that the ISO I used isn't a valid game or something.

Get .bin .cue, bro.

>> No.6340183

>>6340179
I mean...it is.

The only emulator core I could run on RetroArch that would boot the game was the Yabuse core but it resulted in horribly broken sound (like ear-shattering) and none of the graphics would appear.

>> No.6340186

>>6340183
Weird, where did you get the image from? What game is it?

>> No.6340204

>>6340186
World Heroes Perfect. The uoYabuse homepage says it gets a "***/*****" emulation rating and other people have experienced similar results (at least with the graphics, no one mentioned the ear-splitting audio issue).

Got it from CoolROM.

>> No.6340207

>>6340165
Make sure the BIOS file in the System directory is called 'mpr-17933.bin' for Beetle Saturn. The other cores expect it to be called 'saturn_bios.bin' which is more normal.

All the Saturn games I've downloaded been in the Bin/Cue format I don't have an .ISO version to try.

I will say the game is broken up into a bunch of MP3s but I assumed that was just because it was pulling the audio as Red Book.

As the developers originally did. Hacked hardware and an ODE.

Give me a second here, I'll try to see if mine runs and then I'll have a link for you if it does.

This version works perfectly fine it seems:

On my old Saturn from back in the day, of course.

On a JP saturn with pre-flashed pseudo cart with the ram switch, and burned CD-Rs. Regular JP controller or JP Virtua Stick depending on the game.

So I downloaded that from CoolRom and yeah, Beetle Saturn doesn't seem to play nice with that format. No idea how you convert that to bin/cue format.

YabaSanshiro can play the .Cue but the audio is absolutely fucked. It doesn't seem to like the .iso.

>> No.6340282

Of course it's fucked. It's an iso and it uses mp3.

When you find a copy that looks like this, it plays perfectly fine. But I also don't understand why you wouldn't rather play the arcade version.

I have a Japanese saturn with Pseudo Saturn on an action replay cart, and so i mostly just used burned Cd-rs but I have a few original japenese copies of games, mostly cheap shit like sega rally, virtual on.

Also it natively maps the buttons to the standard six-button interface of the Saturn (without any of the input quirkiness of the PS2 Gorgeous anthology).

Beetle Saturn core under RetroArch, with the CRT lottes multipass glow shader. Trusty Xbox One S bluetooth controller. Games run good, look good, and control good.
Having six face buttons is a meme. Mapping buttons 3 and 6 to R1 and R2 is more intuitive and makes performing moves that require those two buttons in combination with other buttons easier. Plus you get an analog stick for things like Nights and Daytona USA.

Yeah, screenshots taken with a shader (mask?) enabled may appear to have vertical lines or other artifacts depending on how the web page scales them. If you open my screenshot in a new tab, and zoom in and out incrementally, you'll see what I mean.

Finally got a working World Heroes Perfect disc image (though, actually, it was just a single .BIN instead of several). At first it wouldn't load but that was because the .CUE file had an absolute file path mapping to the .BIN so I just made it relative and then it worked fine.

Mednafen and cue+bin from archivedotorg ( I use redump) ! You can use retroarch too... The bios are easily found with google, or just download a bios pack from archive too... You can even use reshade with mednafen if you like your Crt pixels. Retroarch has also yabasanshiro and Kronos and yabause ... Plenty of options
