Goddammit, of course it was something this obvious. It always is.

I don't know why but I just assumed that you couldn't pick up and throw bombs in this game. The cracked floors in the previous rooms wouldn't blow up either so I thought I needed a different item or something.

Yeah, there are identical cracked floor sections in the previous hall, that don't break when you bomb them, which feels like a bit of an oversight - like they were either supposed to break and it was forgotten, or they weren't supposed to have that cracked floor pattern on them in the first place. Either way, I wouldn't feel too bad about it.
