Is Night Trap - 25th Anniversary Edition a release worthy of the hardcore Night Trap fanbase, or did they dumb it down for casuals? Any other FMV games you can recommend?

It's kind of neat that they used the raw footage (literally a "remaster") to produce a version at a higher resolution, but other than that I don't really see why it exists. I guess someone's out there to buy it.

FMV games have "aged well" in the sense that they were an evolutionary dead and there's nothing new remotely like them, and with a remaster they're just flat-out better than the original versions. I get that somebody who dropped cash for a 3DO and full retail price for Night Trap would have been mega-pissed, but in 2020 it's just good honest fun for a couple of bucks. Zero-budget horror movies from the 70s that never even got distributed in their own time end up on blu-ray, it's basically the same deal.

It's a fun game. Such a weird time capsule of the 90s FMV craze and it has a spot in gaming history for being so weird even for the time. I bought the physical Switch copy and enjoyed it. I know these old FMV games are not good, really, most are pretty bad- but I would love to see more get the remaster treatment. Interactive B-movies as I see them.
