What is gonna be the most normal outlook on 5th Gen consoles in the future

Is it only gonna be people like us that grew up with them or enthusiasts who are gonna like these consoles and games by then?

Are things like outdated graphics and a little clunky controls gonna be deal breakers for people?

It's pretty much going to be the same as all the other generations; people that grew up playing them are the ones who will be out looking for the games and paying tons of money on ebay to recapture a piece of their youth. I think we're in the midst of this right now and I still think we have a few more years before that enthusiasm begins to die out like with the 3rd and 4th gens.

I personally believe Gen 6 will be the last generation to get hit had by collectorism and a desire to revisit these games.

Sooner than you think, nobody will give a flying fuck about any of the things that you deeply care about, whatever those happen to be

Incorrectly, after 2005 is true retrospective or (simply retro for short)

>Is it only gonna be people like us that grew up with them
>implying 5th gen wasn't when I was in college
>implying /vr/ is all one generation of gamers

As for your question, I don't actually care that much.

PC gaming went from way behind consoles in the 80s and early 90s to way ahead in the mid to late 90s.

The nostalgia patterns will be identical. The real issue is durability. Fifth gen consoles and games (other than N64) are much more fragile than previous solid state cartridge based games. This will definitely impact the market in some way. Collectors may be less inclined to buy because of the higher upkeep responsibility and/or because 3D games really can be emulated in a (pretty objectively) better way than they play on real hardware. However this same fragility will cause them to be scarcer in the end so yeah there will be a different supply/demand curve on both ends.

Right now is a fucking stupid time to be looking to invest in literally ANYTHING other than the stock market though (or guns & ammo if you're the other type of person). If you love retro video games and video games history and would enjoy owning a piece of it sure buy some games but by no stretch of the imagination will they gain value as fast as stocks will at their current prices.
