Are the Shining games actually GOOD? Tell me

I've never played shining wisdom before but people say it's pretty average so probably not a great entry. The main shining force games are great, great gameplay, great character designs, great music. Shining the holy ark on Saturn looks and plays great too if you're into dungeon crawlers. Considering everything is shut down right now I highly recommend trying a couple out on emulators to see what you think

I've only played Shining Force 1, it's GBA remake, Shining Force CD, Shining Force 2, and Shining Soul 2 (pretty sure that's part of the shining series?)
I really enjoyed all of them, especially SF1 and the GBA remake (extra story and more battles).
One of these days i'll give Shining in the Darkness a try. I'm on the fence when it comes to those dungeon crawlers, the only one I ever played and beat was Sword of Vermillion.

What are some other games like shining force? I like shining force because it isn't stupid difficult like fire emblem and I like the class upgrades.

Final fantasy tactics and tactics ogre? I haven't played either of those but I like the genre with the exception of old fire emblem (new ones are pretty good but permadeath is a shit mechanic)

definitely play the mainline games in order, if playing older looking games hurts your impression when later games look nicer or may have more conveniences play the older games first (play shining in the darkness before shining the holy ark in this case.)

I personally don't have much investment in playing things in an absolute order. X3 being the last Mega Man X game I've beaten despite beating the rest. It does matter in some cases.
