What if Sega had gone with the Black Belt system?

is that a sega playstation cube?

PowerVR2 was a much better option. N64 is a good example of what happens when you don't feed a z-buffer with enough memory bandwidth to make it happy. And you know consoles are going to gimp on something, and it's usually memory.

PowerVR2 solves the z-buffer memory issue by using tile-based deferred rendering, no external z-buffer required at all. PS2 solved it by having ludicrously fast (but small) VRAM, GameCube solved it by having z-buffer eDRAM, and the Xbox solved it by using z-buffer compression.

Black Belt used a Voodoo Banshee or Voodoo 3. Neither have anything of the sort. 3dfx's solution was just to throw faster memory at their Voodoos. Wouldn't have worked well if Sega gimped memory bandwidth like Nintendo did with the N64.

Then maybe they wouldn't have lost their pants.

It would have been better overall, why Sega of Japan were allowed to design the Dreamcast after the abortion that was the Saturn is beyond me.

Those pants were getting pulled off by the drop in arcades anyway.
