I'm actually surprised there aren't more tarot/fortune teller simulators.
I only know of 2 more, both exclusive to Japan:
Mystery Tarot for Super Famicom and House of Tarot for Game Gear

I vividly remember my older sister telling me that this game is actually haunted, and if I played it I'll be cursed and a ghost will come out of the TV and kill me.
Shit sat on the shelf for 10 years before I finally mustered up the courage to give it a look. Was both relieved and disappointed on what the game actually was.

Played this a party once ("party" meaning "we invited three people over to my grandmother's house), and one of the girls who played died shortly after. All of the predictions the game made to her were negative ones, although between the five of us (my brother plus the other three and me), not any of one of us got a whole lot of individual time with it. Still, I distinctively remembering her getting negative answers, every question she asked. And then she was gone, two days later.

Also, a ROM of this game correctly predicted that I would get a GF years later in my teens. Hadn't one for years, did the next day.

I'd like to see someone to reverse engineer this shit and see whatever the fuck is actually in it. It's probably just a coincidence, but it's still sort of spooky. Not the only times I've heard of stuff like this happening on that game, either.

Are there really that much urban legends surrounding this game? That's honestly kind of creepy considering the fact that its just an NES game.

I think the last 2 anons were just creepyposting.
I don't remember Taboo even giving straight positive or negative answers. I played it and the fortune telling was very vague. Don't remember any "you'll get a GF" message.
It's still memorable for being a game with nudity that passed the NoA filters.

Well, there were a lot of people who believed there was something wrong with the game in my town. But there were also a lot of kids who believed that a mummy haunted the local park.

>>6312416
I can't speak for the first anon, but the thing about my friend dying a couple days after is a real thing. She fell off of a tractor. When we were playing the game, she kept getting this weird, dead cow skull-looking thing, like three or four times. It was creepy.

>>6312421
> Don't remember any "you'll get a GF" message
Not what I meant. But I got a really positive message when I asked, and it happened. There probably no correlation, but it's fun to think about. I hadn't played that game in any form in years. The less rational parts of my mind almost believe it.

There are a fuckton of them. It's just that they aren't really "games", so most were made for computer (or, in modern times, mobile). There wasn't a need to have more than one per console back in the early days.

Any other creepy game recommendations, though, /vr/? I'm really in a Halloween kinda mood.

I don't even remember seeing any on PC, but yeah I can see them being on mobile now.
However, only 3 consoles got tarot games, NES, SFC and Game Gear. Maybe there's more but I don't know any.

Which region do you think had the creepier /vr/ games? Maybe its because I'm a weeb but I think the language barrier for some JP releases would definitely add to the creep factor.

As far as I know, the whole thing is up to RNG. Like actual fortune readings, it "shuffles" the cards, then whatever the first 10 cards are will be picked. although in this case the "shuffling" never happens and it just randomly picks 10 cards from the database. I don't think the information and question parts influence the RNG at all. The Fortune Numbers are also randomly picked for you.
I heard you can actually reroll what cards you get during the shuffling screen with the D-Pad, but it doesn't seem to do anything at all.
There's 78 cards in one set: 56 are the Minor Arcana, and 22 are the Major Arcana. As far as I know, you're not supposed to get the same card twice in one reading, so it's kind of bizarre that you got the Devil Arcana multiple times.

So, it was the guy who wrote the story (several years before it, originally as a forged manuscript!) and later pitched the idea for the game

>On 10 January 2007, Horne's body was discovered holding his wife Mandy, who had been terminally ill with multiple sclerosis, in their bungalow in Papil, West Burra.[5] The Sunday Times reported on 13 July 2008 that rather than the "Romeo and Juliet" scene described in many articles relating to their deaths, Horse had stabbed her thirty times before killing their pets and stabbing himself until he too bled to death.[6] Actor Tam Dean Burn, who had in the week of Horse's death made a radio tribute to him, said in 2009 after speaking with Horse's female relatives that the 2008 report was "a cruel distortion".[7]

The beetlejuice mask second from left with the elongated face freaked me out as a kid. My mother used to tell me to go to bed or the "kuko" would get me, and I imagined a life sized realistic version of an entity with that face coming for me if I didn't go to sleep.
