How hard is the mayumi v4 to install? I wanted to play some PS1 on real hardware but fuck those prices on a lot of games.
Is the component out worth it to try and chip my PS2? It's a 20 wire mod vs a 5 wire mod, and I have basically 0 soldering experiencing.

>> No.6300023

>>6300016
I go with PS1 for a number of reasons, and Mayumi V4 is easy once you get a hang for it. It is an 8 wire mode however. I belive MM3 is just 7 wire. Only temperamental joint is the signal on wire 2.

What makes it hard?
What does the PS1 have that beats out 240p over component that the fat PS2 offers?

>What makes it hard?
It just has to be a very short wire run, that's all.
>What does the PS1 have that beats out 240p over component that the fat PS2 offers
PS2 doesn't play all PS1 games
>component
nothing really, component is as good as RGB and more convenient.
I just like the PS1 boot up more, have OPL for PS2 and didn't want to do the PS2 mod. Plus the colors of the controller match.

Could stand to shorten some of those wire runs. Big 'ol juicy blobs of solder aren't always what you need too. Oh and the board itself looks kinda dirty please make sure you clean it with a brush and alcohol.

So the Mayumi takes it clock signal from the board, makes it slightly better than an MM3 but that connection has to be money and it needs to be as short as possible. It's very susceptible to interference which can cause crashes, etc.

It's just called IDE mod if you decide to connect the IDE cable wire by wire. But If you have the right model you can use a pcb to ease the installation. In my case I used the GD IDE. I would not recommend this mod right now as the result isn't satisfying. Some games are great like crazy taxi (instant texture streaming) but some have stutter, slowdowns, freeze, no sound. Very interesting project none the less. Lurk on dc swat for more info and have a look at the new loader for lba48 harddrives.
