I found my box of old PC games, they still have the manuals and inserts in them but I've made ISOs and disk images of the installs. Should I just flatten the boxes? They take up a lot of space.

why make a bait thread like this? No one is retarded enough to do that.

I don’t have a lot of choices here
>throw them away
>sell them
>put them in a huge box in the closet and take up space
At least when you flatten them, you’re not damaging the packaging and it will only take up half the space

Is castles any good? What kind of game is it?

Put them back in the box and shove them in a closet or something.

I could give you the files if you want, you can play it on dosbox.
Its a castle/medieval sim where you designate money/men/armory/taxes to building your castle and protecting your land from invasion. I think its turn based but not sure
Not really my kind of game but I got it from a local thrift for $2

I'd say only flatten the box if it didn't come with insert cardboard that filled out the empty space. Don't throw that shit away - keep it as it is and flatten what you can. Keep manuals in a nearby folder that can close up with a lid. Big boxes are pretty fun to have, but they really do take up a lot of space, and if you're not using them, you might as well try to get some of that space back.

naw dude don't flatten the boxes, that's stupid as hell, I collect old boxed PC games and have a collection of nearly 200+, shit like that is why cardboard inserts are hard to find for the boxes

shit youre right, most of these boxes have the cardboard in it. looks like I'll just keep them around in full.
i'm still kicking myself about 10 years ago i saw an orginal Doom pc box with disks and inserts at a thrift, for like $6 and i passed it up because i had the game files already at home. but then i learned doom was only sold in the mail so getting the box would be pretty rare now. oh well

Destroy the boxes while filming them and send them to collectors like Lazy Game Reviews on Youtube. I'm sure that will lead to hilarious reactions.

why don't more people collect for PC?
>huge boxes with some of the best art out there
>comparitively cheap
>master race

>> No.6297052

I think people don't collect PC games for several reasons:
1. a lot of people consider PC games to be more of a 'normal' thing while console games on physical media like cartridges and disks are considered more like-able to collect. And before you say "but what about big boxes?", most people nowadays don't think of PC games in big boxes but rather digitally downloaded games or at best stored on a DVD or something with a Steam code as a form of DRM. Which leads me to the next point...
2. PC game developers and software developers had a lot more problems with piracy and came up with DRM solutions long before it existed in its current form. Don't have a valid key or necessary documents when the game asks you for something? Too bad, you can't keep playing unless you crack the game.
3. Piracy has become less of an issue for both consumers and developers now that platforms like Steam not only made it easier to (re)release them on but with regular sales the price point became even less of an issue and the need to pirate decreased while not completely vanished.
4. A lot of PC games were made in a certain era like before or after windows 95 and later operating systems sometimes can't run games as well natively as on the one it was originally made on. While sometimes easy to fix it scares off people because of incertainty with compatible games while things they find online are usually fixed to work on modern OS or with some simple solution like DOSbox. Consoles and handhelds don't have that problem.
5. Emulation. It's much easier to emulate consoles and handheld systems while running PC games seems like too much effort to some. Yes those people are retarded but it shouldn't be a surprising revelation to anyone who knows other people.

All in all, I too think collecting PC games is interesting even if it's for low prices but there are many reasons why a lot of people rather collect, say, SNES or Playstation games or stick with other means to play PC games.
