Not so much loading per se, but Sotn has a ridiculous amount of waiting time when you die, it takes you to the main menu and makes you load your save all over again. Though it's such a piss easy toddler game that you SHOULD be punished this much if you somehow manage to die.

>> No.6292141

I remember being applied with loading times when I once was in a store playing the demo Playstation. The game was Die Hard Trilogy.
I knew that CD's we bullshit in video games when there was loading time wasted for a loading screen.

It said "loading" in plain text on the screen for a long time before it switched to a fancy, fiery, and animated "LOADING" screen.

And then it loaded the game after a while.
As soon as I heard that the N64 was cartridge-only after that experience, I knew that I was sticking with nintendo!

I went and found footage of what I thought I remember.

https://youtu.be/JCvjnsbw7AI?t=71

It may not seem like much now. But to a Cartridge only nintendo kid in 1996, those 19 or so seconds of loading time was a chilling culture shock. An outrage. Blasphemy.

It was even better when tapes didn't read correctly and the game had to rewound and reloaded. On my c64 this usually worked but waiting/messing with the tapes a half hour plus only to realize the tape went bad was the icing on the cake.

It was only a brief period where there wasn't any loading times.
Most kids who grew up with 5th gens and on wards are used to loading screens/install screens.
Only people who experienced video games in the cart-based era didn't have to suffer through them.
Of course if you had a home computer back then you were fucked too.

Why does PS1 emulation has loading time? I'm using mednafen and I'm grateful to have the ability to play the games but I really wonder why.
To answer the thread Winning Eleven had the longest loading time.

>> No.6294320

For accuracy. The Retroarch forks of the Mednafen PS1 core allows to overclock a majority of shit in the system including loading speed.

Doubt it really ever comes up but loading screens can sometimes have minigames. Though iirc some dickhead group patent it out so only they could do it. Literally the only reason other games didn't do it. Did a quick google search and the dickheads were Bandai Namco. You have them to thank for the boring wait times on other games.
