Do you guys have more art of Bowser using his purple cape from the SMB3 art?
Only other time I've seen him with it is on the Momotaro Mario OVA.

I love the early off-model art that was made when they hadn't decided on the official sterile corporate versions of each character they use today or just drawn by Western artists who did an interpretation based on the few screenshots or sprites they were shown.

The artist for this cover, Mega Man 2, said that they called him to Capcom of America offices and they needed the art done as fast as possible. They showed him the game playing and he asked them "What's he shooting? Is he holding a rifle or something?" and the Capcom rep just said "It must be a pistol or something." So he drew him with a pistol.

This was the first actual game that Charles Martinet voiced. It was released before the game that everyone says was first. And Gottlieb didn't pay him for it. Or so he says.

There was going to be a Legend of Zelda pinball but it was repurposed to be based on American Gladiators, but then they lost that license, so it became the unlicensed Gladiators.

That's what most people think, but the pinball machine came out in 1992, and that game came out in 1995. People weren't sure it was Charles in the pinball machine since he wasn't credited, but a fan asked him at a con and he confirmed it. Source: thisweekinpinball.com

Wait... nevermind. The pinball machine definitely came out first. Charles Martinet was in the 1994 version of MTT, not the 1992 version. The 1992 voice actor is... Ronald B Ruben.

it doesn't explain why his ankle is about to sprain though

I sympathize ultimately, way too many people in this hobby judge everything on a combination of 1) knee-jerk reactions, and 2) assumptions that every single game was made under identical, optimal circumstances. Bitches don't get anything about game making, it's a real pain in my ass. People meme on Sakurai when he said "have you ever made a game" but he's right, if you haven't ever tried it then you really are missing an essential understanding of how difficult and involved it is, or how crazy things can be in the process.

Sorry to go on a rant, I agree, I like when things are new and not yet settled. It's when a series becomes well-established that it loses some of the fun of experimentation that defines the originals. Zelda 2 is a victim of that turning into a revisionist plot about the game's history.

I remember another Mario pinball machine that was far less exciting. Just some bumpers on the board and holes for "pipes" that sent the ball in other places. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I distinctly recall hearing "Thank you for playing, this is Mario" upon losing the last ball.

Western materials weren't all that consistent with Bowser's design. The gamebooks used whatever artwork they had on hand (so sometimes you'd see Super Show Koopa while other times you had normal Bowser) and the Nintendo Comics System used the cartoon King Koopa design, but still called him Bowser.
