Pretty sure I recall an interview with M2 around the time the Mega Drive mini was in development where they said that they'd like to make a Saturn mini but feel that current-day ARM processors are too weak to run them at an acceptable frame rate (they figured it would be about ten years before they could be able to handle something as complex as Saturn emulation).

I mean knowing how these mini consoles usually go I would expect something like

Nights
Burning Rangers
Panzer Dragoon Saga(?) or at least two if not all entries from Panzer Dragoon
Sonic R
Fighting Vipers
Virtua Fighter
Daytona (hopefully CCE but they would probably use the original release)
Astal
Shining Force III if you're lucky

Damn shame that light gun emulation isn't easier, I feel like a Saturn Classic would be pretty nice if you could play Virtua Cop 1 and 2, HOTD and an English version of Policenauts

I'd be surprised if this was released outside of Japan though, and the games I picked above are obviously if it was released in the states

Kikai Seizō, doing business as Sega, Inc., focused on manufacturing slot machines. oraku Bussan, doing business under Stewart as Utamatic, Inc., served as a distributor and operator of coin-operated machines, particularly jukeboxes.[5][8][9] The companies merged in 1964, retaining the Nihon Goraku Bussan name.[5]

All the art was drawn on cels and the anime FMVs were animated on either 35mm or 16mm film.
They could easily scan the cels and backgrounds digitally on ridiculously high resolutions and restore the FMVs to 4K (1080p if it was made in 16mm but it's widescreen so I assume it's 35mm) if they still have the original negatives.

I reckon whatever the announcement it is, it won't actually be Saturn related. It's presumably celebrating the 60th anniversary of SEGA itself I'm guessing? The only reason why Segata Sanshiro is being used is because he is kind of the de facto mascot for SEGA in Japan as the Saturn was the only console they gave two fucks about.

I really wouldn't be surprised if it just ends up being some retrospective video with some SEGA anniversary merch. It just doesn't make sense that SEGA would celebrate a 60 year anniversary with either a Saturn Mini or some ports to modern consoles only for the Japanese market when SEGA has been more popular in Europe and America for a lot longer than in Japan.

So a bigger question is why is SEGA just making such a big deal about celebrating it in Japan only? What will the celebration be in the West?

That's because Sony is retarded and won't allow anyone to release modified PS1 software in any way, because it would be a new release that has to be submitted to PS1 cert anyways (which doesn't exist anymore)
So developers can't remove the license infringing content from PS1 software, until they relicense it again, or do weird shit like using japanese versions in american PSP or vice versa.

there IS a good emu for android devices, Yaba Sanshiro. but it requires a considerably powerful device, something from a Galaxy s9 or above.
