What are your favorite retro simulation games? And generally, what type of simulation games do you like? Business simulation? General life simulation? Vehicle sims?

I am actually very interested in finding one but most are in Japanese. Aside from straight up paper trading I haven’t found any good trading sims in english. As for recs it depends what you want to simulate, I played some railroad and farming sims in the past that have been cozy

My favourite is both extremely dope and a genre that fucking vanished.
I'm not going to tell you which game it is because I want to make a game like it one day and I'm still butthurt about Stardew Valley straight-up cloning Harvest Moon.

Pizza Tycoon is pretty out there as far as business sims go, if you want something off the beaten path. Has a different name for yuros.
>>6277708
No one gives a fuck and no one here is gonna make a game. I still want the perfect brothel/porn company sim, but no one worth a shit is gonna make one and I ain't gonna either because I got other shit to do.

I dunno man, I don't see how you could possibly be speaking for anybody but yourself.
Kinda sad to extrapolate your own shortcomings to the entire universe, but does it make you feel better?

Aerobiz Supersonic is excellent. Probably one of the best airline simulators out there.
It's also a lot of fun to see how their future predictions played out - in-game, Russia joins the EU in the 90s and Supersonic transports make a comeback in the 2000s.

I'm a fan of the Fire Pro Wrestling games. I've yet to find another game that just allows me to autistically tweak percentages and numbers for hours and then watch the results play out. There is a new one on Steam and PS4 but it comes with like 200$ worth of DLC baggage and the old ones run much smoother anyways.

There are plenty of german ones. Games like Patrician, 1869, Hanse, Kaiser, Transworld, Black Gold, Winzer (vintner), Inve$t, Oil Imperium, Steigenberger Hotelmanager, Zeppelin: Giants of the Sky, etc. There are Sims/Business sims for all kinds of obvious and not so obvious businesses (Hint: there also was banned KZ Manager around https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KZ_Manager ).
Or other games like Spacward Ho!, Detroit.
Back then the market was overflowing with all kinds of economic simulators. Even ones dealing with the unification of germany or the aftermath of it (Aufschwung Ost/Boom east).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yygqyE_ZvcY

But I guess my favorite is Mad TV (I hardly played the sequel Mad News).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K73xfSZOhUE

I never got far with those and usually was bored quickly. Maybe the game of that genre that I played the most was "Biing!: Sex, Intrigue and Scalpels" an adult (business centered) hospital simulation, which I played on my Amiga 1200 (fucking 19 Disks(!) with a mandatory HDD install of course).

And the intro of the game was hilarious:

Uncharted Waters: New Horizons. It's a trade and commerce simulator with RPG elements. Pretty good shit, let me tell you.

I just picked up another New Horizons game today but it doesn't have -anything- to do with maritime trading and sailing, though... kind of disappointed.

I always meant to try this game, maybe now is a good time.

It's not very graphical but I used to play the heck out of a game called China Sea Trader where you're just running trade routs.

Harvest Moon for SNES was more fun that it should have been. Rent it with my friend because we didn't see anything else that looked good. We are both kind of skeptical about it. He plays the first day and instantly we are both hooked. Maybe we were autistic as kids but we cleaned out all the shrubs and rocks and had a double sleep over that weekend and kept our file going. We were both crushed when we found out the game ended at a certain point.

Harvest Moon’s ability to play forever is quite a mixed blessing. I’ve had saves of 64 that were decades in, and the game comes to a serious halt. Eventually you’ve gotten every line of dialogue and then it’s a very spooky feeling.

The reason it's so expensive is because it's licensed, it's just wrestlers. People have already made all that shit with the in-game editor, on PC at least. You just need Fire Pro Wrestling World and just download shit other people have already made. The only stuff that's "required" is the entrance editor and the Fire Promoter shit. It goes on sale every now and then if you're a buyfag, otherwise just pirate.

Honestly I was really happy to have an endless game but looking back on it now I feel like having that limit gives you a feeling of an end game and stops you from just getting bored and never going back to it. I was recently thinking about this with the release of the new Animal Crossing game because I still have my GC save file that I could boot up and play but it's an endless game and there isn't much of a point to it.

I think the only reason we were mad is because we didn't know ahead of time that the game had a set limit so it took us by surprise. We would spend days just cleaning up the farm and making everything perfect when we should have been maximizing profit and getting married lol.

>>6279276
>HM64
I was so hyped to play this game like 5 years ago because I loved all the other entries so much. But I was hugely disappointed because of those short days. I would run into town and come back to do some farming and the day would be over. Or I would do some farming and try to go to town but everything is closed down. I didn't make it beyond 2 months I think.
