N64 isn't even the most fondly remembered Nintendo console, let alone market-wide where any PlayStation would probably beat it in a survey with a large and varied enough sample size. The only people who think N64 is best are a specific set of mid-late millennials who were slightly too young for SNES and couldn't fuck with Sony because they didn't have a lot of the superficial aspects that Nintendo and Sega thrived on, like mascots or more flamboyant hardware aesthetics.

It's arguable. The Playstation kicked its ass bigtime that generation. The lack of games is a problem. Also, graphically looks like total shit unless you upscale and yeah it looks like shit on CRT too. Everyone was all about the N64 until the PS2 came out because it not only had 4 controller slots, but nearly every single multiplayer game supported it. N64 has a lot of great games that are still unmatched.
Wave Race 64 is one of the best experiences of that generation, and its 6th gen sequel couldn't match it.

God, I remember having to buy multitaps for PS1 and PS2 and it sucked. I specifically remember buying a PS2 multitap from EB and it had all sorts of ridiculous "features" listed, like they were trying their best to say as many good things about it as possible. The best-looking games on both consoles look about equally amazing. Early poly era was the height of 3D digital art, even though a lot of what makes it great is an unintentional consequence of technological limitations, and it absolutely requires a good CRT

As long as you leave out more than half the genres available back then, sure. But what did N64 have to offer in terms of fighting games, RPGs, ARPGs, action games, anything 2D, anything akin to Tomb Raider, Metroidvanias, stealth, traditional platformers, non first person shooters, simulation games of any kind, survival horror (other than a bad sport of RE2), arcade style shooters (or arcade style anything), vehicle combat, shmups, and a lot more. The N64 was a small subset of genres with some OK games, but if you liked more than 4-5 core genres with 1-3 core games each, you were totally fucked. But it had OoT and Mario 64, so it gets a free pass from literal brainlets.

And your post even leaves out that N64 has the best wrestling games and ports of the best skateboarding games that gen. You forgot some of the better shit N64 had, and it's STILL trash compared to every other platform available at the time.

I had a modded PS1, but not being a fan of RPGs, most games I played on PS1 were shorter style arcade games, or some stuff like Resident Evil.
Most of the stuff I played on PS1 was bad or mediocre anime games actually.
I used the N64 way more, especially because of the multiplayer.

I found it odd how the early games have a better framerate, the early games had that sgi smooth look to them too while later games started looking like bad pc ports sometime.

examples

turok - smooth
turok 2 - slow
turok 3 - smooth

Some of the worst were the star wars games, the first one ran ok but the sequals got worse as they went.

Then you have bad 3rd party games like glover and gex that are very slow. Many games have a good framerates buy if you pick a game at random you have a good chance of getting 20 fps or lower.
