How does this JRPG rank among its SNES contenders? Besides Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy this JRPG is better imo and one of the best in general.

dumb forced narrative shit where Alys starts out being smart and capable and just turns her entire fucking brain off for wizard penis so the self insert male character can take over

because the gamer can never be the parent, they must always be the baby, they can never take responsibility, they must always clean up the mess and compensate for the failures of their predecessor

and women must always rely on men instead of being equal

PSIV would have been the best 16-bit rpg but instead we got cucked

Alys Should have been the main character, and Chaz the final boss

They do, they generate society and raise kids, which is more important than being an office drone for some corporation or getting their heads smashed pretending to be soldiers.
Women's emancipation was a big mistake and it becomes more clear every year, the more media and art they create, the louder and more 'woke' they get the more they prove far right talking points and undermine their own positions. It's uncomfortable but I'm learning to cope with it as well.

People that think Alys should have been the main character are smoothbrain retards. She's a great character and all, but at the point she's in the game she's already the elite hunter; the hero of her town. Her story has already run its course.

Chaz might be stupid and have no idea whats going on half the time but he's supposed to be the vehicle for the player to interact with the world. He grows throughout the plot and can admit he's just a scared kid by the time you get to Rykros and get his final weapon.

I remember years back someone tried to make a fangame retelling of PSIV with Alys as the MC and it was literal shit.

You're incapable of creating equality since you have to address the sex ratio. When Islam creates excess men, the men are perma-incels and literally have no choice in mates, despite any red, black or blue pill idiocy.
One cannot create equality or patriarchy without addressing the supply and demand of the human sex market.

I was a sega kid and never got to play what looked like amazing SNES RPGs like FF, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana etc until about 10 years ago, by emulation. Somehow, I never got round to playing PSIV back in the day either, so I played that by emulation around the same time as the SNES titles.

All I can say is that the SNES games were ultimately disappointing whereas even 20 years too late, Phantasy Star IV delivered absolutely everything I wanted from an RPG. It's not nostalgia or being a sega fanboy, it's just that PSIV is faster, better paced, and more focused than the other games, and unlike Final Fantasy games, the world has a real history from game to game whereas each FF game is disconnected. I felt like Square Enix were trying to make me care about too many characters but at the same time not letting me bond with any of them, and presenting a really complicated, messy story that I felt like I was watching rather than participating in.

A nice RPG that's become vastly overrated over the years. In a lot of ways it's babby's first RPG but with less cultural recognition than a FF or DQ because it was on the Genesis.

The world, itself, is fascinating, Phantasy Star always had amazing imagination behind it, but there's just not much in the way of exploration, challenge, or secrets. It's very linear without much to do outside of the main quest, though the bounty hunter feature breathes some life into the world.

If you want a elite level game in the same world, go with the first Phantasy Star game on SMS which is a hardcore no bs dungeon crawler full of mazes to explore and map out in alien worlds that offers plenty of challenge to keep the blood flowing. There are even entire bonus dungeons to explore.

SNES RPG library is pretty over-rated beyond the Squaresoft titles. Those games, however, I feel are better than Phantasy Star 4 because they have better gameplay variety. PS4 gives you the option to pick your 5th party member. FFV and VI let you fully customize your party. I also feel that they have better graphics, but that's subjective. I'd take Phantasy Star IV over basically any other SNES RPG, though. Genesis is kind of quality over quantity in the genre, whereas SNES is mountains of shovelware, with the Squaresoft entries carrying the platform.

This. I ended up dropping FFIII on SNES at the burning village where you get Strago. There was way to much going on and I wasn't enjoying it. PSIV is one or the best presented RPG's i've ever played, where the "cutscenes" were the manga panels and really added depth to the characters. The Seth thing is a good example of how in a rush the game seems to be constantly. You meet this guy, five minutes later he turns into Dark Force and it's never mentioned again afterwards. It's very obvious the first draft of the story had a bigger role for him to make the twist more significant.

I never had a problem with the audio. The soundchip is perfect for techno, and that's the style that best matches a futuristic RPG. It'd sound better on a YM2151+PCM drums setup, but it is what it is. Phantasy Star wouldn't sound as good on an SNES chip with a low fi ADPCM orchestra. If it was on Sega CD I think it would sound more like Phantasy Star Online, and that was a great soundtrack too.

>>6262160
I agree and wish the SNES had a game with a battle system like that. I much prefer it to the Final Fantasy battle system in graphical style, perspective, and execution. At the same time, Phantasy Star 2 & 3's backgrounds and battle menus were atrocious, and 4 didn't come out until 1994/5 in the US so it was late in the life of the Genesis/MD. By that time a lot of SNES RPG development was moving to the PlayStation.

My favorite RPG. When I was a kid my uncle randomly gave me a box of SEGA games. Among them was this game. It was kinda new at the time. Anyway I was stuck on Zio. I could never beat him. I even ground myself to apx. level 40 by farming sandworms. No matter what I kept getting smoked.
>Use the Psyco Wand out of the inventory.
The whole time I was trying to smack him with it. Being power leveled for the rest of the game was kinda fun.

>> No.6277054

Zio is such a great boss.
The way the game builds him up by showing you the scorched earth he's left behind, the fearful comments of the townspeople and then the insane behaviour of his cultists.
Then when you meet him he's legit scary for a sprite (that conversation with Alys where she tries to explain that if he destroys the solar system he'll die to, and he starts laughing and says yes, that will be glorious).
and the MUSIC...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K90tPeGJNIk&list=PLmBphinVLUzQ9txIKQ78nFzCLcW_MTWfx&index=27
and then
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao2LP75E7ac&list=PLmBphinVLUzQ9txIKQ78nFzCLcW_MTWfx&index=28
my hands were shaking both times I fought him on my very first playthrough.
Unfortunately he's almost too good since none of the other bosses in the game are build up to that extent... there is no foreshadowing or build-up to Lashiec, and Dark Force when it appears is just a blob, again with little build-up.
Phantasy Star 2 does it better.

The thing I probably love most about it is the speed, it's the fastest feeling JRPG I've ever played.

Wren and Mieu babbysittin' li'l Adan, Gwyn and Kara. Thank you for showing love to the red-headed step child of the series. I love PSIII, despite its obviously rushed, unfinished and unpolished final product. I imagine that if it got the same labour of love sort of treatment given to PSIV, it would have been great, perhaps surpassing PSIV in awesomeness.

I'd love to see a PSIV hack reboot of PSII and PSIII. Does that make sense? Like... hack PSIV to use the same story and flags and shit as its predecessors. Basically make the former games in PSIV's engine. They'd both benefit. Especially PSIII. PSIII had such great ideas but such horrible execution. It makes me sad. Almost as sad as the urgency drop of PSIV after you kill Fragile-onward era Trent Reznor. Zio really does look like 1999+ Trent, doesn't he? When I first saw Trent's new look back then, I was like "Oh shit. It's Zio."

NP fellow PSIII fan, I feel the exact same. PSIV is the nicest to play out of all of them but PSIII's lore and attempts at having a generational system keeps it as my personal fav. A remake is unfortunately something we can only continue to dream on about (especially since even when they originally tried to remake the games they completely left PSIII out of it) but I know it'd be a great one if they did it right. It'd be really nice if they were able to remake all the games in PSIV's style too... I'm a bit surprised no one seems to have tried that in the old PS fangame community from what I've seen, but then again I don't feel there's even many games that took inspo from PSIV's battle and cutscene system which is criminal since it was so good. If only Sega actually cared for the original games instead of focusing on the PSO era of the series....

I don't know why you would go on the internet and lie. Not only is PS1 not grindy, there's really no point to it as you'll hit the very low level cap without even trying. The only time in the game you need to grind to progress is at the very beginning, you know like any 80's RPG not called Final Fantasy. You need enough money to buy the secret pass before you can do much, that's it. Any other time there's a money block, you can go somewhere else and explore something you couldn't before.
