Let me use this shitpost of a thread to as an opportunity to clear up a common misconception that's been grating at me for decades: those blocks you see in Mega Man games are NOT appearing out of thin air. They are platforms being pushed out of the wall. You can tell this by the fact that every time they appear in a game their design is either identical or is a more detailed version of background tile.

Hate to remind this as well, but the only reason you think 2 is the best is because statistically it was the most popular and common mega man game and nostalgia is clouding your judgement.

Even if you disagree that 3 is the best, it has to be either 3 or 4 - where they got it down completely and haven't yet run out of ideas and made some unnecessary irritating additions like 5 or 6.

1 < 2 < 3 > 4 > 5 > 6.

3 is the peak, then it's downhill from there.

I think what contributes as well is just the fact that 5 and 6 are 5 and 6. You're typically gonna play them the last and it starts to wear out. I've finished them couple of years ago without actually having any retro experience and I only remember of the drawbacks - low creativity with bosses and in 6 - I think - when you choose some flying item you HAVE to watch some small animation which is unskipable and YOU JUST DON'T DO IT in a fast paced game - or any game where gameplay is the centerpiece of the game.
