Unlike Carmack, Romero is at least interested in making enjoyable games. Remember that Carmack made Wolf3D's engine because he was butthurt that Blue Sky Productions already achieved texture mapped 3D with Ultima Underworld and he thought he can do better - and obviously he couldn't.

I prefer John Romero as a person, but as a developer, Carmack was far better than Romero ever was. Carmack created the engines and made it work, he pushed everyone to keep to a strict schedule, and he managed to keep the company from falling apart entirely while Romero cracked.

Romero simply stopped caring and just wanted to appreciate his money, he's the reason DOOM 2 has terrible level design, because he simply didn't give a shit anymore and left it for others to create while he was off porting their games or sharing Carmack's engine with other companies. Romero's the reason why Quake 2 is graphically impressive, but pretty ass gameplay-wise, because he left together with a few other guys necessary for a decent story and the typical Id Software quirk, yet Carmack managed to do without the necessary devs to create a riveting story and design, and made the best arena shooter ever made.

John Romero made nothing after leaving, he simply isn't good enough on his own to make anything of value, Daikatana took him years to finish and it was garbage, none of the devs cared about it and Romero was going around wasting money he never would've made if it wasn't for Carmack in the first place.

Either way, his SJW moniker was given because of a charity cause...it's just that some people don't support said cause.

All the team had their contributions, and greatness came as the result of their combined efforts. John Carmack wrote the code for the engine, Tom Hall made the game concept, Adrian Carmack made the designs, and the guy that gave it all a soul, that made Doom "Doom", was John Romero.

Isn't he working on some game right now after finishing Sigil and his latest game being cancelled?

The guy is still in the games industry, not working on a gas station, something which has been stated to have been a joke that idiots like you believed apparently.

Guy worked on Doom and Wolfeinstein 3D, was part of Id Software, and...the developer behind Daikatana, the guy has so many stories and still street cred he can do interviews, books or even get people to pay for new Doom levels the guy made.

The reason why he can spend 1000 dollars, something no clerk at a lousy gas station would randomly do, is because he can afford it, dude can sell memorabilia and random stuff in his house for 1000 dollars easily on Ebay.

Seriously, i think at one point he just decided to sell 25 random floppy disks he found in his house on Ebay and those sold for 25.000 because people just want stuff he played and touched.

That and, like i said, pretty sure he still works on the games industry and is working for some developer right now...let me check...yep, on Twitter he's announcing a new game...and asking people to send resumes to his developer because they are looking for talented people?

Yes, not all levels are great, but the same could be said of the original Doom, particularly episode 3.

And Doom 2 adds some welcome additions to the enemy roster...and Pain Elementals that lead to more varied and cool encounters...also the Super Shotgun which is freaking awesome.

There is a reason why a lot of Wads use Doom 2 as the standard most of the time, it is a glorified expansion pack, yes, but it's a good expansion pack.

In picrel developers such as Romero bemoaned the transition into late 90s gaming for inflating the scale of projects and thus the manpower and development time and resources necessary to make product up to the public's standards.
If he has no developers, then it's difficult to make something even on the level of a Gen 6 game quality-wise, let alone would bring in the profits.
Don't know how true that is but at the time they were confident that mobile gaming would just be an easier market to go indie in.

He is working on a game, even has his own studio called Romero Games.

The game is called Empire Of Sin, and it seems like an XCOM kind of game with gangsters in the 20's and i assume you are supposed to start a whole new mob family and dispatch every rival until you succeed.

...Wait, it's a RPG with turn-based combat, still playing as a gangster in the prohibition era and thus i assume you can make your counterfeit alcohol drinks and sell them, it's supposed to come out in Fall 2020.

...You know, for some reason i always thought that if Romero came back to making games, it would be a FPS game or a platformer, not a fucking RPG or Simulation game with seemingly XCOM like combat about being a mob boss.
