pick one
they didnt push the hardware of the console at all, they might have pushed the hardware of the 3D rendering PC they used to make the sprites if anything, and it turned out pretty gross looking imo

Looks great, but you need to either emulate at the original resolution (pic related, really tiny on a modern screen) or a CRT.

3D pre-rendered graphics look awful most times
this is one of those times imo
Sprites just look so much better and give you more artistic freedom

You can enjoy both styles.
Metal Slug is obviously one of the most detailed 2D retro games, but I was never a big fan of its brown palettes.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I didn't even like pixels when it was all we had. I was thrilled when prerendered came around. I'll never understand the boner people get for pixels.

it didn’t use any power boosting chips like the SVP

>> No.6240865

>>6240858
Tbh something like the SVP probably wouldn't have helped much unless it was doing the scaling in real time maybe?
Most of what this is doing is raster effect tricks and tons of DMA

both are pixels
with prerendered, you are basically taking a picture of a 3D image and turning it into a sprite, wich, specially with the hardware of the time, looked much worse than a hand-made sprite. Plus it gives off this "lazy" feel to everything, where they try to fake a 3D or high-tech feel but i just dont buy it, i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder because donkey kong obviously got a huge following
