How do I mitigate the framerate issues present in the Classic Redux version of Shadow Warrior? Whenever I pickup a fortune cookie or, occasionally, when I use items such as the medkit the framerate stutters/tanks. Vsync is off because if I turn it on the game becomes real choppy.

It's a stupid barrier to entry that does nothing but sabotage old people wanting to replay doom or kids wanting to experience the 'old school' of the new hot FPS on the market.

The Wayfarer won a caco this year, and not without reason. Apart from adding an episode, it replaces the thrilling damage sponge gameplay with something resembling Quake a bit more. Which is to say, time to kill is still longer than in Doom, but you won't die of old age while holding the left mouse button like you would in Heretic.

That would be a very awkward way to do forced air cooling when you don't even take advantage of the Gatling setup for a blistering rate of fire. If you look at something like an old Lewis gun, it has a hollow shroud over a single barrel, and some radiator fins running along the barrel, the gas escaping the muzzle after the bullet forcibly pulls in cool air from behind the shroud and runs it along the barrel.


And that's an old WW1 era clunkerfucker, you can apply a similar principle to basically any automatic.

Not entirely original Chaingun behavior, you can tap-fire single shots, and basically as fast as you want (up to the fire rate of the normal Chaingun), looks slightly smoother too, but it's the same function call so it's the same damage and the same spread behavior.

How the fuck is incompatibilities arising from someone trying to use a huge pileup of mods that overwrite each other a "stupid" barrier of entry? How could the modder possibly avoid that? Are you seriously expecting the modder to make their mod compatible with every possible combination of other mods that anyone could possibly come up with?

The best approach is indeed the one HDoom took, when you detect someone is playing your mod with other popular and incompatible gameplay mods, kill the player and show a message telling them "don't use [popular mod] with this, fuckface". It gets the point across succinctly and doesn't leave the player to contend with a bunch of unintended and unpredictable behavior while wondering if that's how it's supposed to be.

Colored specular for Clutch's uncommon and rare outfits
Removed the "PBR Specular" nodegroup from BJ's outfits to keep things consistent with all of the other models
Removed a few duplicate pieces from Visor's lore and Scalebearer's uncommon sets
Removed the autosmoothing on Death Knight's lore sword

The problem is (as you found out) loading up on tiny linedefs for a small pillar causes distortion since there are no half-length pixel linedefs in vanilla. So pythagoras kind of freaks out.
You could either make a smaller pillar with 10-16 sides, or a larger pillar with more linedefs.
Doom isn't really the game for this type of "thing" beyond basic decor, truth be told.

Doom? Most frontends like Rocket Launcher and ZDL let you select the map. If you are using GZDoom you can use the console to each map as well. Type, without quotation marks, "map map01" to go to the first level if it's using Doom 2 naming styles or "map e1m1" for original Doom. Some wads DO use totally custom names though, mainly for secret maps.

External's got jokes too, but they mostly seem to be confined to multiplayer skin shit and advertising where they don't matter. We'll see when it comes out if they managed to fuck up the campaign. Adrian probably just drew it based on double-barrel shotguns he had seen in movies, with no specific one in mind.
This old hammerless Stoeger with cut down barrels would probably fit the bill though. Assume the single trigger trips both sears at once or something, and that the lockwork is reinforced to handle that.

The Super Shotgun is painted from scratch, basically, but the rest of the guns are digitized toys, the pistol is a squirtgun shaped like an M9, spraypainted black, the shotgun is a Tootsie Toy Dakota, the chaingun is a Tootsie Toy "Ol' Painless", the plasma is the front end of a vaguely M60 shaped toy, the BFG is a Creatoy raygun, eventually with the plasma's muzzle fitted to it (the raygun also had tons of greebling on it which they turned into wall textures).

Ultimately we can't actually deduce much from the game itself by looking at this footage, we have no idea how the actual level design would be like, or how the combat would be. It's been said that the game was starting to turn out too much like modern military shooters like Call Of Duty and Battlefield, hence why John Carmack supposedly vetoed the build and had development restarted.
I don't think we could really make much out of this footage, to get an idea of what the game was actually like, we would have to play the last builds before that iteration of Doom 4 was shitcanned.
For argument's sake, imagine if Doom was never released and all we had was some video footage of the 0.3 and 0.4 alpha builds, they're nothing at all like the final game.

I like how the pistol looks actually, like a Beretta 92 but extra big and beefy. The shotgun they ultimately went with apparently dates back pretty far, as well. Imps teleporting around I have mixed feelings on, that would almost feel more suitable for a special enemy.

There's already some crazy glorykill mechanics in that build, so it definitely would have wanted you to play aggressively, slower paced horror games don't typically make you twist a double-headed creature's heads off by jamming your shotgun between them and applying aggressive torque, that's some downright Kratos shit.

FWIW, way before Doom 4 was actually revealed, my own cautious optimism was that, "maybe it'll be like Doom 3, only better", which I say as someone who did like Doom 3, in spite of its own flaws.

I think, and this is pure speculation, the games that don't do this, don't do it because of a need to feel realistic because in most scenarios you can't take 2 or more guys at once. Even Bruce Lee said never fight 3 or more guys because that's a recipe for getting yourself killed (but then he also said make sure you're packing in case martial arts don't cut it which is why the last few years of his life he had a magnum on him at all times because of one too many people trying to be "the guy that beat up Bruce Lee" on the street).

Doom 2016 actually took itself completely seriously despite the over-the-top stuff, mostly leaving its cartoony things to secrets and bonuses. Doom and Doom 2 are easy on UV, Final Doom, and many pwads, usually aren't.
Difficulty varies, but don't find yourself bothered if a .wad is too hard on UV, it may be fairer to you on HMP.

In the case of Plutonia, Dario Casali outright said that if it was too hard on UV, then to play it on HMP first, then give UV a second try.

I don't really get much grief from the proper boss enemies, they're relatively easy to wipe out. My trick for Spiderdemons is to blast them a couple times with the Thunder Buster and then ram a grenade from my assault rifle down their face. Cyberdemons are a little more tricky, it's usually dependent on what's spawned around the map. I hunt around for a proper rocket launcher and gather all the HEAT missiles I can, they can usually take 2-3 HEAT missiles before they die. Barons and Hell Knights though? Those are the ones that give me real grief, what I've found effective is to locate them and just blast their general area with the Thunder Buster. They're real bastards.

Finally figured out how to have Build Engine-style static portals.
This was CRUCIAL for my autism, since regular teleport portals would ruin the magic by showing you jump across the automap and having sounds play from their actual location instead of the location relative to the player.

Why is Freedoom so intent on making everything thematically different from the original Doom instead of just making it the same?
I mean, I don't know why Barons can't just be big satyrs that shoot fireballs instead of being whatever this is supposed to be.

Hell, I'm surprised Freedoom isn't done yet. I see things like R667 and it's obvious that the Doom modding community is full of people who can do good spritework that closely matches the artstyle of the original games. And yet Freedoom enemies look like they've been cut and pasted out of JPGs.

I tried playing freedoom.wad as the IWAD and I found the sprites and sounds absolutely terrible. I had to use the original Doom IWAD with various custom sprite mods/sound mods to overwrite the freedoom sprites and sounds to make it playable. Is it really not done yet? If by dark you mean literally dark, theres a wad out there called Dark Doom that lets you make any map darker with numerous settings, plus it gives you a range of flashlights to use.

If you mean dark as in horror, I can recommend these:

Unhinged. Horror wad that uses lots of custom monsters and textures, mainly revolves around distorted and deformed pictures of actual people.

Innocence X series. PSX Doom themed wad, meaning classic gameplay but with a horror focused atmosphere. Uses some slightly altered weapons.

Infuscomus. Long horror themed map set in a giant mansion that uses textures from Blood. Uses custom enemies, but ONLY on the two highest difficulty settings, which include bullshit Lost Souls that oneshot you.

Happy Time Circus 2. Very long map with custom enemies and weapons set in an abandoned town, heavily inspired by Stephen King's IT and Evil Dead. STRONGLY recommend playing this one with a flashlight mod because a good portion of it is very dark. There was a Happy Time Circus 1, but it's vastly inferior to this project.

Silent Hill 5 to 2. A remake of the entire Midwich Elementary school from the first Silent Hill game using textures taken straight from the game. Vanilla enemies and weapons so it's fully moddable. Strongly recommend playing with Dark Doom since by default it's pretty well lit, unlike the game it originally hails from.

Splatterhouse TC. A total conversion mod themed after the Splatterhouse games but a strong emphasis on a creepy atmosphere.

Strange Aeons. Total conversion mod set across numerous Lovecraftian dimensions with custom enemies, weapons, and music from Chasm: The Rift.

Soundless Mound demo. A demo of a TC currently being made themed heavily around Silent Hill. About 2 hours of gameplay.

AtmosFear. A map that uses custom enemies, weapons and loads of scripting to try and make a creepy experience. Comes with it's own flashlight but it sucks ass and runs out of batteries in 5 seconds so I'd recommend using a flashlight mod like Dark Doom for it.

There's plenty of easily accessible games that are still pirated. You can script that too, for example limiting running only when the player actors args[0] field (as in one of those variables you can set for an actor special in Doom Builder) is particular value, a value which you can easily change with a map ACS script.
