Gonna buy this and play it next time I have a couple days off.
What I'm expecting:
>amazing immersive pre-rendered backgrounds with a grounded, comfy feel
>deep lore and plot with some shoehorned existential themes
>sort of action combat from an isometric viewpoint coupled with rpg elements?
>lots of getting lost and not knowing where to discover secret stuff or how best to outkit my characters cause I'll play it blind
correct me if I'm wrong on any of these please (without spoiling)

The combat and stats although present are not the main focus of the game. If you want to experience most of the game on your first playthrough, prioritize mental stats over physical ones.

I thought it was pretty boring.

You can easily finish the game with lowest possible scores in STR/DEX/CON and maxing INT/WIS/CHAR.

The background art is decent, not amazing
The lore and plot are deeper than any other game except Disco Elysium, and the existential themes are not at all shoehorned in and are in fact central to the work.
It's not RPG elements, it's dungeons and dragons 2nd edition. You can ignore most of it, but it's the full system with a few changes.
You'll only get "lost" occasionally, the main thing is trying to figure out what to do in each quest, not where to go.

Also, look up THAC0. It's not very complicated, but it's kind of unintuitive and you'll be pissed at how your character keeps whiffing attacks until you understand how it actually works and how it makes things more or less work out.

>amazing immersive pre-rendered backgrounds with a grounded, comfy feel
They're a bit of a mess, not very clear about where you can go and where you can't, and are not pleasing to the eye though I do feel that is very much the point. Sigil is an ugly place.
>>deep lore and plot with some shoehorned existential themes
Yeah, it's okay.
>sort of action combat
I want to laugh but it's more sad than funny. Just nah, mate. The combat is pure rubbish and not at all action-like. Fortunately there's not a lot of it.
>>lots of getting lost
No chance, the world is tiny and you spend almost the entire game in a town.
>and not knowing where to discover secret stuff
I'm not even sure there are secrets, though I guess you could take that as them being well hidden? Unless they don't exist.

gee thanks, I guess I'm skipping this too then
I really liked the look of the game from the couple screenshots I've seen but if it's such a chore in terms of gameply I won't bother
this thread is so weird because I"ve been hearing for over a decade what a masterpiece this game is, I finally decide to play it and the consensus ranges from "it's ok" to "you're gonna have a bad time"

>> No.6210061

>>6210052
It is a masterpiece, just not for any of the things you listed. The story and the depth of your interaction with it is what the game is about. The guy you're responding to is full of shit, the combat isn't bad, it's just easy. The art is decent, and Sigil is as big as any videogame map needs to be. Never trust the opinion of random fucks on here over critical consensus, a lot of the degenerates on this board come here because they're too autistic to be tolerated anywhere else.

You could still give it a try but without wasting your hard earned dollars on, you know. Call me a wackjob, but I think a lower quality game can still be enjoyable when the price is right. And for an Infinity Engine game, $0 is absolutley the correct price.

But if you're one of those no piracy ever for any reason weirdos, then I suppose I have to admit it's a skipper.

>Sigil is as big as any videogame map needs to be.
It's like 5 small maps, excluding interiors. Come on. You can waste some time Googling up a map to prove me wrong and it'll probably be 6 small maps tops.

So what's a good fucking rpg with fun gameplay and a nice immersive world fuck guys all I do is play Dark Souls randomizers over and over and over I need to break the loop but I need a game that will grab me by the balls and nothing is doing it why am I such a sloth

Baldur's Gate has fun gameplay and an immersive world.
Planescape Torment is in fact a good RPG with fun gameplay, it just doesn't have good combat. The world is more immersive than Baldur's gate, too, every NPC can answer like a dozen questions about who they are and what they're doing.
Morrowind is also good and immersive, though I find it annoyingly slow.
Literally just fucking Google "best computer rpgs" and download the top five from whatever listicle comes up first. It's not that fucking hard, dude.

>>6210091
It's dense. In this sort of game the amount of content should be measured by the number of lines of dialogue, frankly, and the people of Sigil have more going on than the entirety of Baldur's Gate 1's Sword Coast.

Turn off the AI, raise the difficulty, and set auto-pause to "per turn", faggot. Or just be a contrarian hipster douche on a retro gaming forum, I bet that's a fulfilling experience.

Go visit 1d4chan, check their approved vidya list. Due to it being 1d4chan, half of it is RPGs and based for their RPG merit, rather than "muh soul" and "muh nostalgia".
