6206189 No.6206189 [Reply] [Original]

I used to like to have original systems and copies of old games, but got retro arch recently and never looked back. Any reason to use original hardware in 2020? My pc can emulate up to PS2, WII U, 3DS, etc. flawlessly.

No. Emulation is getting better by the day.

Wrong. And not retro.

Hardware for 3d stuff definitely, so much better on a Wii (with GC compatibility) than Dolphin over 480p progressive using component.

For emulation, I think SNES/Genesis stuff runs fucking fantastic, for 3D shit like PS1/PS2/N64, not so much. I'm autistic about this shit, stupid shit like the codec screen being the wrong color in MGS Twin Snakes just set me off to actually go and buy the real hardware.

original hardware is always more soulful and why even play retro games if you don't care about the soul aspect to it. if you are of working age and still only emulate you're a fag

>> No.6206362

Has anybody gotten the snowblind engine games to work thru emulation? I have searched everywhere and can't seem to get them to run. These are the only games I can't seem to emulate. I am thinking it is a hardware issue.
>>6206352
I don't know what you mean by soulful, I agree original hardware is preferred. Old copies are much too expensive though anon. hundreds/thousands of dollars are not uncommon.

Just have a flash cart for the games that are retarded expensive and buy the games that are of reasonable price. To me games mean more when you have them physically. Then it's YOUR copy of that game that's there permanently as a physical object, inspires me to actually beat the game way more than it being a nebulous rom file.

Fair point. I do enjoy the convenience of emulators however. psx/ps2 looks really good thru emulation. I have the systems but only use them for fighters.

For CD based consoles I'd say having the original game isn't quite as important since the save is on a memory card and not the disc itself. Up to your own judgment

>> No.6206413

>>6206401
Why would this matter anon?

>> No.6206418

>>6206413
For me it's like, if you have a cartridge with a save on it, that's your save that you can't get anywhere else on any other cartridge of that game, it's totally unique to you. On a CD console the save isn't on the CD so if you got fifteen copies of that game together all of them would have the exact same save, the saving is down to the memory card and not the game. It just makes the CD feel a little less special to me. Kind of autistic but it is what it is. That's why I'd say it's "not quite as important" to have the original game. Also CDs can fuck up worse than cartridges can on a general basis, not that uncommon to get a CD that fucks up on certain music tracks or won't play some cutscenes

For hundreds of dollars you could get started on burning your own eproms and have any game you want for the price of a sportsshit cartridge.

Soulful is the new buzzword collectors use. It basically expresses the concept of jacking off to scanlines and going full REEEEEE if a sprite desyncs for 1 frame or the screan tears.

Absolute minor shit that anyone who actually cares about playing will not notice.

playing ps2 games on an emulator with settings prettying up the game and upscaling looks better ALOT than playing on an original ps2 connected to an lcd,i collect consoles but i prefer emulation for alot of things now.

This. Owning physical carts is great if you have the space but spending absurd amounts of money for the rarer carts sucks. I'm planning on getting an everdrive soon.

why do you keep making threads like this? Emulation is awesome but people like you who can’t shut the fuck up about how you “never looked back” are so obnoxious. To all those seriously replying to this thread, we get the same thing every week, you’re being trolled

I emulate a lot but recently I got a crt and softmoded/flash carts for my old systems. Real hardware is the way to go, no hassle with settings or patches. N64, dreamcast, saturn, ps2 and may other emulators are still not great.

Lets see here

$0 CRT with my modded ps2 ive had for 15 years hooked up via component, never pay for a game, looks amazing, friends are impressed at how chad a 32" Trinitron looks, memories are brought back to life for all, etc

Or

Buy a PC capable of running ps2 stuff at 4k, plug it into LCD, it looks inaccurate, lame, like tryhard zoomer shit. Nobody is impressed, emulator inevitably ends up crashing at some point, etc. No thanks. OSSC is a decent compromise but thats about it for me
