Is there something different about MM1's jump physics depending on whether you have ground beneath you or something? It always feels like I fall way too fast on this bit.

>>6206021
If the floor opens beneath you, you'll fall like a brick and die instantly. Jump before that happens.

I noticed that, yeah. It felt like that was happening even when I jumped, was my point.

OP was literally asking a fair question about About the physics. He wasn't saying it was too hard or anything, just commenting on fast MM seems to fall in 1...which he does fall really fast in.

Quit being so goddamn combative about every post on this board.

I've noticed same thing, but I thought it was just me. I'm not 100% positive, but I feel like there is a difference. I know that if you fall down a pit in MM2 it's nowhere near that fast.

If, hypothetically speaking, someone were to report this guy, what reason do you think they (hypothetically speaking) should give? "Trolling outside of /b/"? "This post is extremely low quality"?

>> No.6206524

>>6206021
It's like you don't just fall, it's like you're sucked down into the abyss. Maybe it's just programmed that way for that specific stage.

>> No.6206530

>>6206524
No, it's like that in Ice Man's stage, too. The physics were literally designed by a mechanical engineer, so the feeling of "realism" in falling was intentional (just like the constant "slippery" walking instead of suddenly stopping like in later games).

>nobody answers the fucking question
MM1 is coded so your fall momentum is preserved when landing on certain platforms, so you have to jump again, rather than straight falling, to reset your momentum.
Obviously remedied in later games.

The platforms on that stage are not actual floors and Megaman continues to fall downwards at maximum velocity constantly while standing on them. They simply reset his position each frame so that he continues to be placed at the top of them. If at any point you are no longer touching the platform then he falls down instantly. This is also why it's very common to fall through the platforms on Ice Man's stage when trying to jump onto them.
