Honestly the big reason why crt shaders are never gonna be a true replacement is because of crt motion handling. You just can't emulate that. That and pillarboxing. This is... kind of comprehensive.

But honestly, even the "shoebox apartment" is not much of an excuse. I live in central London, and everyone here has a tiny flat. At one point in time, everyone also had CRTs that they could fit into those tiny flats. And I have more than enough space in my Mr. Bean sized flat for a Sony 14M4U and a Sony G400. My ex used to ask why I kept such old things, because in her mind "new=good", but they fit so comfortably that she has never once even considered asking me to take them to the tip.

The point is, if you don't have room for at least one CRT, you don't have your priorities straight.

You can.
Lightboost/ULMB strobing already does it.
We just need MicroLED with its high ass brightness to come the fuck out already so that we can strobe properly at acceptable brightness while using shaders.

Basically
MicroLED(very high brightness > 10000 nits) + ULMB/Lightboost/BFI = CRT Motion Clarity at CRT(or higher) levels of brightness.

I've used both Lightboost on an old 2013 TN and ULMB on one of the newer 165Hz "IPS" (think they're really AHVA) panels. The motion clarity is very nice, although they don't quite reach the smoothness of CRTs, largely due to pixel response times still creating a slight double image effect. Additionally, it also messes up color accuracy; even if IPS colors are close to CRT, ULMB kind of shoots that in the foot. Overall, while welcome and preferred over standard LCDs, I do find CRTs to still be the overall better experience.
You're definitely on to something with MicroLED, though. I really can't wait for the day LCD is replaced, it's such a goddamn travesty of a technological "advancement".

So, I have a graveyard of CRT's in front of an old garage. The only thing good out of some of them might be some tubes. If they didn't get scratched when they were thrown there. *Obviously the bulk of them weren't anything great or functional. I'm related to some scrappers who are using that garage to make some side money. Besides I've gotten in there and saved a few old motherboards, joysticks and some other nice things they were going to either let rot or be burned. Get it from a reputable source, you're gonna want some shielding on that cable.
For model 1 you'll probably want the ones that include a headphone jack, since the AV port does not carry stereo sound and you'll have to get it from the front headphone port. Just make sure the connector on the cable is a DIN-8.

Every goddamn time. I said over 100lb, I have no idea how heavy it really is. It's huge and it was just heavy enough for one person to struggle getting it down a flight of stars. My point of arguing against using older TV's is how unwieldy they are so try and follow the conversation, you dummy.

As soon as someone develops a good light gun solution (there are a few okay ones but IMO there is a fatal flaw with each of them) for mame and PC I will be giving away my tube TV's. They are just not worth the hassle for me.

Exactly. Because you've never lifted anything heavier than an organic kale salad or onions latte in your life. So how huge was it? Make sure you google first and come up with some ridiculous size that weighs more than 100lbs.
>My point of arguing against using older TV's is how unwieldy they are for someone who's never lifted anything and can't into simple physics
That was the whole point of the "weak in mind" comment, you dummy.
