Why is this game so easy? It gives you such an absurd amount of energy tanks and energy reserve tanks on top of it that it makes it impossible to die to anything. I can see why SoTN is so easy as well when it has this even easier game as an inspiration.

SOTN is made a lot better by playing the game in Luck Mode, because Alucard will REALLY struggle in any kind of combat for about an hour or so in game, and for most of the game combat is going to be risky, just very barely offset by the maxed out Luck stat.
Eventually, the game's balance will catch up to you at the end and it starts getting easy, but overall I think the game is a lot more fun.

I've always thought that SOtN was harder than any of the NES games, way less predictable and way more unforgiving

but yeah, Super Metroid is too fucking easy and really not that great to begin with. the only hard parts are some wacky platforming sections with the fucking hookshot of whatever it's called, but that's just cause it's badly designed

I'm fine with the difficulty, it's a game for children after all. My issue is the vomit inducing artstyle. It's easily one of the most aesthetically poor games on the system beyond shovelware and branded cashgrabs.

Any NES Castlevania is way harder than SotN. Super Metroid is fantastic, though I don't disagree with it being too easy, even though the difficulty isn't really the point. Samus Returns has the best difficulty level

Because it wasn't supposed to be like a tipical platform where you saw the main character die over and over leaving you as a mere spectator; In SM the idea was that you immerse in the atmosphere and feel that it is yourself who travels through that unknown planet.

Yeah. It made for better challenge and I had to be a bit inventive early on, learning Holy Spirit was necessary, and that used a lot of MP at first, so that meant shit took a little while.
At the same time, you get much more varied drops, and much more frequently, meaning you get more options and approaches to try out.

Tried it on a whim last year and was very pleasantly surprised, it definitely added to the experience.
