Hey I got one of these that I can't make read CDs. I bought a N.O.S. Hop-m3 and it didn't make much of a difference. It won't spin the disk up on it's own. If I put the laser at the end of the track it will spin up the disk during its travel time and a few times I've made it run an audio cd. And the times I did get it to do that it didn't sound right. Real patchy like. Should I just roll the dice and order another HOP-M3 or could there be a bigger issue here?

I've messed with the POTS a little and couldn't make them help the situation. They only made things worse so I put them back into position best I can. The Board looks super clean. Yea the Duo-R isn't supposed to have the Cap problems the earlier models had. Everything looks great on this one. Just won't read discs.

I have both. I have every Far East of Eden, Gradius II, Policenaughts, Every Y's, Ect... Most of my real games are JRPG's I was able to get for cheap. I have many many many burned disc games. And like I said they work fine on my Suitcase PCEngine/CD2. I've only really tried to do the Audio CD's on the Duo-R. I've tried from recent Audio CD's to CD's manufactured in the mid 80's. I think the CD I made play at all was an old Rebba CD I got for free. And it sounded real patchy the few times I made it even play that.

>> No.6200529

>>6200519
Oh yea. It comes with with the Super Syetem Screen. It wants to work. It just won't spin up the CD enough to read it. And when I have it taken apart and set the laser at the far side of the disc it will spin up the disc during that travel time, but whether it will read the disc or not at the end of that travel time is a gamble. The few times it has it certainly isn't reading the disc correctly. The audio it put out has this wobble to it that was fading in and out at a pretty fast pace. That's what I was using the word patchy to describe.

PC ENGINE DUO anything if you ask me should be fully recapped one of the few systems where a full recap is genuinely justified.
I bought mine as junk worked great out of the box except that is looked like it was some roadside find. Turns out of after extended play 2-3 hours the lens would sometimes fail to load the next section. Tried everything adjusting the pot, lithium grease etc still kept happening, as a last resort I recapped it and this problem has never occurred again.
Also my system is a DUO-R
