LSD/Eastern Mind/Chu-Teng general

I don't know how many people saw my post, but back around April 7th I posted on a Chu-Teng thread saying I had ordered Osamu Sato's "Equal" album from a seller on Discogs, which is essentially Chu-Teng's OST. Someone else also said they had ordered a copy, but I don't think they've uploaded a rip yet.

I thought the album was pretty much going to be experimental earrapecore, but it was actually pretty enjoyable. Some of my favorite tracks on this album are "Equal", "A Spaceman Made of Stars" and "Didi-Shou-Chang".

OSAMU SATO - EQUAL LOSSLESS WAV ZIP (566MB):
OSAMU SATO - EQUAL 320KBPS MP3 ZIP (120MB):

For those wondering, LSD for the PS1 and Eastern Mind for the PC are both readily available online to whoever wishes to take a stab at them. However, Mister Sato himself has said that he doesn't even know how to obtain any copies of Chu-Teng.

Anyone have any stories from any of these games? I have yet to try Eastern Mind, but I've made it to day 238 on LSD. Here's something interesting:
>Days ca. 180-238
>days end within a minute if you don't activate any links
>main menu
>START
>hit enter (mapped to select things)
>day begins
>SAVE
>hit enter
>day begins
>GRAPH
>hit enter
>day begins
I'm using savestates, so as far as the game knows I've never saved. It thinks I've made it to day 238 in one sitting. Whenever I try to select anything on the main menu, it just starts up another day. I can't actually save even if I wanted to. It's like the game is trying to force me to play, not letting me save to resume my session later.

Thanks bro.

>> No.619236

Neat, I'll definitely check this out.

>> No.619252

Awesome, thanks for the music. That's quite interesting about it not letting you save; I haven't made it over 120 or so days yet so I can't say whether or not I'll end up experiencing that too.

I've never made it that far in LSD but it sounds truly mind altering. I had a pretty good run built up, over 100 days playing on my projector in the dark but it was starting to effect me strangely so I took a break I never got back to. It sounds like it gets even more disturbing.

>>619271
I'll consider it. There's an LSD wiki on Wikia, unless you have a different wiki in particular in mind.

>>619296
Well on top of it being for the Mac, it's not mainstream by any stretch of the imagination. An obscure game for the Mac in Japan in the mid-90s couldn't have possibly had many copies made.
What I would guess is that there are plenty of copies in circulation (idk, at a bare minimum, 20) in Japan's second-hand market, but knowing their second-hand market first-hand (ha, pun) they just don't get listed online and you have to find it in the store yourself, which puts us out of luck.

>>619872
Woah, is that true? Seems a bit odd he would put a picture of her in such a sexual manner in a publicly released game, then.

>>620315
The "Maiko Girls" refer to a rank Geishas in training receive when around high school age. (舞子 (まいこ); maiko, lit. "dancing child".) I don't know how sexualized they in particular are when compared to other types of girls in Japan (cheerleaders, girls in school swimsuits, girls in sailor uniforms, etc.).

As is probably the obvious, the black bar over the girl's eyes strongly implies something sexual going on at the time the image was taken.

I just did some looking around and apparently there's a porn director named Osamu Satō. I'm going to assume this is someone separate from Osamu Sato (note the Satō (Satou) vs Sato). Neither of them have their own article though. If you can find the thing you read that'd be really cool and informative.

>> No.621193

>the black bar over the girl's eyes strongly implies something sexual going on at the time the image was taken
I thought it was because eyes have more meaning in Japanese culture. Like, eyes to the soul or something.
Cutting them out means looking at a girl without looking at what's inside.
I know jack shit about Japan tho.

>> No.621216

>>621193
Maybe. I wouldn't be surprised if eyes had a meaning like that, but my understanding was that it was to help protect the identity of victims, those who are underage or if in the event the image was to be published without someone's consent.

I'm sorry, i couldnt find any information that confirms what i've said, i googled around pretty hard but nothing comes up, perhaps its just a wild theory after all

what i did found is someone claiming that a limited edition of LSD exists called LSD THE LIMITED EXCLUSIVES that included the soundtrack of LSD but more importantly the compiled dream journal of Hiroko Nishikawa (one of the developers staff members who had been writing his dreams for 10 years, LSD is based off his dreams)

sounds too good to be true

Does anybody know if there's a way to get LSD Dream Emulator onto an American PS3 off of the Japanese PSN?

>> No.624038

>>624003
Not so easy, I think you have to fool the PSN network system into thinking you live in japan by tricking it with a japanese dns address?

Or was it registering it with a japanese street address? Dunno.

In other words, you need a jap psn account.

(HINT: Emulate the game on the espexe ps1 emulator.)

>> No.624105

>>624038
>>624003
Making a Japanese PSN account is as simple as creating a new system user, then creating a new PSN account and setting your language to Japanese.

You have to create the PSN account (all the remaining steps) in moon though, so look up a tutorial on youtube. There's a few that tell you what each text box is for, and luckily you can use the english alphabet for everything.

Paying for a game on the J-PSN store might be more difficult.

>> No.624106

>>624105
To clarify, you set your language during the PSN account creation process, not in your system.

Well I don't exactly know by heart which are and aren't translated. I doubt I even have most of them in the game screencapped yet.
Here's another:
>白い閃光
>居間のテーブルの上には、箱が置かれている。
>亡くなった人の形見なのだ。
>私はその人を想っている。
>すると急に開け放った窓から、白い閃光が飛んできて、母の目の前で炸裂した。
>きっとその光は、亡くなった人の魂だろう。

>The white flash
>A box is placed on top of the living room table.
>It's a deceased person's momentos.
>I've been thinking about that person.
>Suddenly the window opened and a white flash flew in, exploding in front of mother's eyes.
>The flash was surely the deceased person's soul.

How are you supposed to get the ROM of LSD to work? I've tried both ePSXe and PSXR, with Japanese BIOS and everything

>> No.625374

>>625183
Don't quote me on this, but I think with an older build of ePSXe from 2011 it worked so easily you just dropped the ROM in and it worked. I remember that a few months back when I downloaded ePSXe and tried to get it to work it didn't, but when I found the old build I downloaded it worked just fine.

Uhhhh, I could upload a zip of the build I have if you want. Do be noted that I have little idea what I'm talking about though. I don't recall having to change much at all before getting the ROM of LSD to work, especially anything related to BIOS.

Alternate of the same hallway. One thing I noticed in the really late texture sets is that some of the earlier textures get used, like they can be different combinations—the floor in this pic and the one above being an example of what I think are different combination of different textures on top of each other potentially.

625867

Another example of texture blending. It has the Japanese characters that can appear early on, but the floor is actually a transparent texture that looks like you're walking on chains or something. You can literally see between them and through the ground, but it's still plenty solid to walk on.

Here you go anon.

To download:
>File -> Download
To extract, just drag and drop the folder titled "ePSXe" to your desktop, or wherever you want to store it.
Now, for the setup:
>Place your ROM of LSD under the folder titled "cdimages"
>Start the application titled "psxfin"
>File -> Insert CD image
>Select your ROM of LSD (The one I have is titled "LSD - Dream Emulator.bin" and is roughly 630MB. I have another file titled "LSD - Dream Emulator.cue" which is 1kb and that does not load the game. ROM not included in the zip linked to above.)
>Run it
>It should work just like that
>Hooray!

If it doesn't work, I have little idea how to fix the problem. Savestates can be saved with the F-keys. You'll have to check the controls and set those up to your own liking yourself.

I hope this works for you, anon.

Hey listen. I was pretty into Eastern Mind - I beat it in a day and loved every minute of it. I have two things to say about it. The first is that like six of the eight characters you can play as have the same names as the Kujii-in - google it, they're a system of ninja hang signs with meanings similar to chakras, and the Tong Nou playable characters share almost all of their names.

Secondly, I have a question. Spoilered here is the final screen of Tog Nou that appears after the end. It isn't much of a spoiler really, nothing's given away, so it's safe to look at. Anyway there's some kind of coded message there. I tried for a while to decode it using the in-game instruction manual, but I couldn't seem to find all of the characters - only some of them.
I doubt anyone knows the answer to this but if somebody does I would sure be interested.
