The sprites dont look that bad? Something like FF1 on PSP really hits close to that RPG-Maker vibe, looks bad in motion. That said it kind of feels like something like Gen 2 had more varied colors, especially thanks to the day-night cycle. Whereas with Gen 3 its mostly just green and blue and maybe some shades of brown, it's pretty dull in comparison.

Based and Pokemon Redpilled.
I've long considered the Pokemon designs from gen 2 onward to be much lazier than the original 150. While the original set all looked distinct and 100% unique, everything after follows a design meme of "well, let's give it some colored stripes and tribal-ish markings". Few of the post-Gen 1 designs have soul because nearly all of them are given this "look".

Undeniable facts I'm afraid. I liked Gen 2 more, but it's tricky, the most mesmerizing of the game moment was... going back to explore Johto.

As time went by, I kinda realized Gen 1 was unbeliveable advanced and charming for its age. It's just a feeling of loneliness and eerieness wandering around that world that nothing could top it afterwards.
