Well it looks like I can get EspRaDe on PS4 or Switch. Still a little more than I want to pay. Deathmmiles is pretty cheap surprisingly. Glad I didnt sell my 360. My PS2 has a hard drive in it, I could play Espgaluda on that. Maybe I'll start there.

older roms should still work if MAME didn't get any updates for the particular games. but it's a good idea to get up to date romset. you don't even need to update your mame or roms afterwards if you're content with how they work, unless you need the new functionality or new compatibility.

Are you memeing? Ketsui is literally the hardest Cave shmup. Start with Espgaluda 1, then Donpachi (World Version, it refills your bombs at the end of each stage), then Mushihime-sama, and then you can choose anything but DoDonpachi DaiOuJou and Ketsui. Leave those for when you're bored with the genre.

Psikyo is a special case. The design is totally dad, but updates the formula to modern standards (finite game, faster pacing, no checkpoints, ditches mashing). So it's the best of both worlds. Definitely a top tier company, only loses some points due to relatively little variety in their games.
